World Cup draw - England to play USA in the group stage!

1:30 pm then, assuming you've also moved to Summertime. :ugeek:

It will be a rare event, as much of the world's population will be enthusiastically cheering the Yankees. Not that I have anything against our English friends, but this is a special occasion.

I shant be cheering the Yanks. I'm sticking with Brazil and heaping derision on the English (as usual) and the French (for the first tome of many).

Wow, the US as underdog.

Oh well, loosing in the first round is better than never having shown up.

The USA should be looking to get beyond the first round IMHO.

Possibly, but maybe not quite for the normal reasons. If the boys from north of the DMZ don't do the business, The Great Leader may get very angry ... :dq:

I actually got very interested in the game in 2002, for obvious reasons. Don't give a shit about any other teams than N. and S. Korea, tho. I've heard that the US has a team, but...meh. :ddpan:

S. Korea will struggle to reach the second round, unless Nigeria decide not to turn up (in the mental sense). Even then Greece could be a problem. The Argies are clear favourites there.

N. Korea haven't got a prayer. Brazil are clear favourites to win that group, with the Ivory Coast likely to edge Portugal for the second qualifying spot, IMHO. If any of the N. Korea party are planning on seeking asylum, they'd better not hang about.

If the North Korea v. Portugal game is anything like the quarter final in 1966, then we could be in for some fun though. :coffee:

Methinks we're on an upswing at the moment, tho. The South may have a surprise for the group. Still, don't see them being serious contenders. They've been pretty flaccid since Hiddinck left.

Decadent Yankee capitalist imperialists will no doubt concoct some conspiracy to unfairly deny the Fatherland its due glory!

There ya go. From a 3-0 lead to a 5-3 loss.

 One of the most famous of all World Cup matches. Somehow, I can't see anything like that happening this time, but it would be fun ...

Incidentally, Portugal went 3-0 down to the USA in a first round match in 2002, but the USA held on for a 3-2 win that time.

The 2006 match in Pyongyang received a bit of press, too, eh? :hehe:

As in finish in the first two places after everyone has played everyone else in their four-team group. Then it's straight knock-out games after that.
