No matter what, for at least one day the papers and the internet will overflow with the faces of Englishmen crying over their being knocked out. Can you really see them beating Spain or Brazil? They're not as good as they think they are, as evidenced by their performance against Mexico.

I hear you, but what happened in their last competition says otherwise.

The reality is that WC is a very short competition with no room for recovery.
Confidence plays a big role in such scenario.

The current Spanish side are pretty damn good and don't lack for confidence, I think Argentina and Brazil could come good but, of the European sides, I think Spain have to be favourites.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. It is one of those FIFA moneyspinners that nobody get's riled up about. I recall Spain getting beaten by the US, I thought it was a friendly.

It was their only defeat in something like the past 34 or 35 matches - the rest of which they've won, including all of their qualifying matches for the WC.

That result bodes well for the US though - shows that they can be a real danger on their day, England have to watch themselves

No doubt, US is not the jole it used to be, but that has been for a long time.

Regarding the confederation cup, it is a little money maker, but trust me when I say that in countries like Brazil it it taken VERY seriously.
Actually in Brazil, a warm up friendly game in a training field is taken seriously if it involves the national team.
It is easier being the president than the national team manager.

What I like about this WC is the SA timing zone, here in East coast US kick offs are just perfect.

That's the game of the first round, although Holland-Denmark (local derby ) looks a bit tasty as well.

The North Korea games will be interesting as well, if only to see if there are any strange goings-on.

That USA win over Spain was a great game BTW, Confederations Cup or not. Spain had almost all of the play, but the US defended like maniacs.

Oh, and I have nine days holidays that I have to take before the 1st of July, or I lose them.
