Park scores second in consecutive friendly in US
By Yoon Chul

Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-sung netted his second goal in a consecutive pre-season friendly match in the United States, Thursday.

The first Korean English Premier Leaguer notched the team’s fifth goal in its 7-0 triumph against the Seattle Sounders at CenturyLink Field.

The EPL champions, again, proved their prowess against the Major League Soccer (MLS) club in front of 67,052 spectators.

Wayne Rooney bagged a hat-trick in the second half, while Michael Owen, Mame Biram Diouf and Gabriel Obertan also found the back of the net.

For the first 15 minutes, the Sounders threatened the visitors, seeking to avoid the fate of the New England Revolution, which lost to the Red Devils 4-1 on July 13. But it proved to be in vain.

Patrice Evra’s cross in the left corner found Owen’s head for a 1-0 lead and the only goal in the first half in the 15th minute.

As soon as the second half began, the punishment started as United let rip.

Diouf made it 2-0 in the 49th, and two minutes later Rooney started his goal onslaught, needing just 21 minutes to get his hat trick.

In the 71st minute, Park, who came on as substitute for Ryan Giggs in the 46th, connected to a low cross from Obertan, on which Rooney faked a shot that put Sounders goal keeper Terry Boss off balance, allowing the Korean to score easily.

Manchester United will play a third friendly against the Chicago Fire, Saturday (local time)

It'll be quite a while before the men's soccer team gets near a World Cup final.

My guess is that they haven't heard of it yet. Must've been only yesterday they actually touched a ball. :hehe:

One day, Aussie rules football fever will sweep the world!

Faster and more skillful than rugby, plus vastly more violence than soccer, which has to add to the entertainment value!

And Oz shall reign supreme!

I've heard of soccer. But I didn't know there were professional teams in cities like Seattle.
So is there a national league and everything? Do they have their own stadiums, or do they rent field time at local high schools? :dunno:

Only 4 out of 18 teams don't have their own stadium and yes there is a national league that includes canadian teams. :prof:

If you are after violence as an additive to a football game, I suggest you watch the Rugby League State of Origin Series. Sometimes I get the impression that people come to watch the fights and are occasionally surprised when a game breaks out.

True. I think they carry it a little far...

But they are mostly from NSW and Queensland, so the ultra-violent thuggery is to be expected...

Origin games are great fun to watch, but most RL games include an element of violence as standard. Coming from Wigan (who currently hold all 3 domestic club trophies), RL is a compulsory part of one's education...
