Fail
Fail
Around 60 years ago many camps throughout Eastern Europe were discovered. They were used to exterminate over 6 million people. Six million, the worst genocide in history. This is an incredible number, and we can't even begin to relate with what happened to those poor innocent people. And yet, you people claim to have the moral higher ground. You assert that my behaviour is downright wrong. Apparently I show complete apathy to everyone around me.
The Holocaust is possibly the worst thing in the brief history of civilisation--a thing which depends entirely on the morality of individuals.
Yet you people live everyday of your life without thinking of the Holocaust, You function normally in spite of what happened. Never does it enter your head on a day to day basis. You don't care. You don't give a shit and neither do I. We all know what happened, but despite it's significance we fail to relate. It just isn't important in walking to work, or grabbing something to eat. Let me remind you: 6 million men, women and children died in the most horrible ways imaginable. This doesn't stop you in your tracks ever
.
You're apathetic when you shouldn't be. But the Holocaust has no implication for you personally. Jewish or not, it doesn't physically affect you. So why feel so chivalrous when you condemn me for calling someone fat (for example)?
We're all nihilists here, except you people seem to have the conceit that your the moral compass that you'd like to think you have matters. It fucking doesn't. I apply my nihilism to reality, I'm closer to it and yet you claim superiority?

Re: Fail
Do you think you could actually change the title to something more informative ... something that might actually do justice what you are trying to discuss? "Fail" is just an all-purpose term with no particular meaning, and conveys no sense of gravity or seriousness.

Re: Fail
Lozzer, I really don't think you can say I don't think about WW2 everyday, including the Holocaust. Right now on my desk, I have:
The German White Paper: Full Text of the Polish Documents and the report on American Ambassador Bullitt's war attitude.
Document concerning German-Polish Relations and the Outbreak of Hostilities between Great Britain and Germany on September 3, 1939.
American White Paper: The Story of American Diplomacy and the Second World War
Documents on the Events Preceding the Outbreak of War (Compiled and Published by the German Foreign Office)

Re: Fail
Oh please explain Lozzer ? Does this stem from your Post "War " ?
Oh and please don't lecture me about how I think or feel about the Holocaust .I have met survivors of the camps I have seen the tattoos .

And IKU to Charlou for the move.

Re: Fail
I don't think Lozzer's being rude and arrogant. He just a perfect example of the inevitable. As the generations go on WW2 will decrease in relevance and importance. The generation of 100 years time will care as little about WW2 as we do about the Napoleonic or Prussian wars.

The 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.
The 150th anniversary of the American Civil War.
The 100th anniversary of the War to End All Wars.
For me, history is perking and bubbling. With any luck we can get a few poeple's attention during this process.

As it is, most people are disconnected from much of the troubles in the world that are happening right now.

Re: Fail
And that's who we're aiming at. By providing teaching resources for those events. We have 2,000 pages of documents from the War of 1812, both sides, ready to upload, as just one example. (These include my all-time favorite historical quote, the tagline of a letter from an American Commodore to his family. "I am glad to hear you are all still gay, and hope you remain so.")Animavore wrote:I was speaking more of the general populace.Gawdzilla wrote:In the next ten years I will be involved in three projects:Animavore wrote:I don't think Lozzer's being rude and arrogant. ... although I still prefer this quote, which you should recognise straight off:
"... The failure of the enemy main body and encircling light forces to completely wipe out all vessels of this Task Unit can be attributed to our successful smoke screen, our torpedo counterattack, continuous harassment of enemy by bomb, torpedo, and strafing air attacks, timely maneuvers, and the definite partiality of Almighty God".
Sorry for the naval derail ...

Re: Fail
I have visited Belsen.
I have walked the battle fields of the Somme.
You say, that because I am an not paralized by self-absorption that I do not care?
Is it that black and white? Either you care with every fibre of you being or you don't?
Haha... you assume, that one can not learn lessons from the past to help prevent or at least lessen the chance of the same thing happening again. Well humans are pretty bad at it, but it's still a worthy cause.
My answer to your OP: Pragmatism. Causing the least amount of misery to the most number. The rational view. That is why I claim moral superiority to raw emotion based decision making.

Re: Fail
That's fair enough but these will be looked at with cooing interest rather any deep connection to the events. They will not have the same psychological impact that the events had at the time and in the few years immediately after. That is the main point I'm trying to get across. Its already beginning to show. It seems to be ok now to make cynical jokes about WW2 (Extras for example) were as there would have been uproar about the insensitivity of such things when I was a lad.Gawdzilla wrote:And that's who we're aiming at.
