Ayahuasca contains DMT and an MAO inhibitor, which allows the DMT to be absorbed when consumed orally.
You've got to be careful with MAO inhibitors and interactions with other medications. If you are on SSRI's or SNRI's and a couple of the other antidepressant groups, you definitely shouldn't be having MAO inhibitors.

From what I recall, it depends whether it's MAO-A or MAO-B. One interacts badly with anti-depressants, the other doesn't.
