If that's what you think today's "antifascists" look like, and if the Nazi German Army is who you think today's antifascists are fighting when they hit people with bike locks, burn things down, attack, harass, chase, hunt, badge and punch, well you're not looking. Today's antifascists call Ben Shapiro a Nazi, threaten him, drive him out of public venues, and riot to keep him from his "platform." Today's antifascists think they're fighting fascism when they sneak up behind a white guy who opposes affirmative action and pepper spray him.

The very comparison, that antifascists today would be compared to those who stormed the beach in Normandy is absurd.

You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

No, 42, they're exactly the same. I'll show you.

April 29, 1945, allied liberation of Dachau. The guy on the far right carrying the B.A.R. is my Uncle John Lee, now deceased, then aged 19. He lied about his age and joined the Army when he was 16. Landed at Anzio and fought his way up the boot of Italy and was one of the first 4 troops into the camp. When this picture was taken he had been in continuous combat for over 500 days. He was court-martialed for his involvement in the Dachau massacre, when 35-50 SS guards were executed by U.S. troops, though he wasn't directly involve in the shootings. The investigation was squashed and all charges against U.S. troops dropped by George S. Patton.

These are Antifa demonstrators. They're wearing a sort of uniform, just like Uncle John. They've been fighting against Nazi Fascist Genocidal Scum like Republicans and Libertarians for several months at least, just like Uncle John. It's been brutal on them, sometimes their double skinny caramel mochachinos get cold and they have to log off facebook. They're exactly the same. Fighting Fascists is fucking hard work, man, but without these Heroes we'd all be dead or rotting in FEMA Death Camps.

Uncle John went on to have a long and very successful career as top management at U.S. Steel, but unfortunately he later turned into a Republican, thereby completely negating his previous sacrifices as an Antifa Activist. He should have been executed, of course, or at least sent to the reeducation camps, but because of Nixon, Reagan and the Two Shrubs he never paid the price for his perfidy. It's because of people like him, traitors to the cause, that multi-millionaire football players are forced to kneel on the hard, cold ground whenever the Star Spangled Horst Wessel is played.

The point of the meme isn't to say that Antifa (who aren't even mentioned) are the same as the people who fought in WW2. It's saying that Americans used to fight facism. Now they welcome it with open arms. This is a week where it's revealed 48% of Republicans believe Trump should be allowed close down media outlets. That is disturbing to say the least.

The Republican party ain't what it used to be, laklak. Trump is a far cry from Eisenhower. Ike's probably turning in his grave...

Not saying it is, but the Dems are a far cry from what they used to be also. Politics in general sucks dog dick, as do most politicians. Well, corporate dick, anyway. I can't see FDR campaigning for Hillary anymore than I can see Ike supporting Trump. I find the OTT hyperbole of the far left just as annoying and full of shit as that from the far right. If you take a measured, centrist (dare I say "realistic and rational"?) approach these days you'll be roundly castigated from both sides, you're either a commie socialist anti-American traitor or a fascist racist sexist pig. I've unfriended so many people on FB for their moronic, ill-informed, meme-based political spewings that I feel like the 7th grade pencil necked geek, ain't got nary a friend left. I'm not a Republican, I'm not a Democrat, I'm not a progressive or a socialist or a fascist or even a Libertarian (despite being a registered party member). They all espouse both moronic and reasonable positions.

Both parties have moved to the right since FDR/Ike, but the GOP has become far more extreme. I've actually never registered with a political party, as I don't like political parties and I don't like partisanship. But at this point the GOP is so rotten, amoral, corrupt, religious, and downright crazy that I feel I have a moral obligation to side with the Democrats. The Dems at least still believe in facts and science, which for me makes all the difference.

Problem for me is to side with the Democrats means at least tacitly accepting their ridiculous identity politics and nonsense like abolishing immigration controls (not that all of them advocate that). Siding with the Republicans means I have to accept their stupid pandering to evangelicals and general shitheadedness (not that all of them are like that). Being a Libertarian means a lot of people assume I want to abolish driving tests, pilot licensing, and all government regulations and most government programs. The advantage of voting Libertarian is they'll never win anything, so you don't have to deal with the fallout of Billy Bob building a pig abattoir next door to your suburban home.

New Poll: 43% of Republicans Want to Give Trump the Power to Shut Down Media
The “enemy of the people” talk is working. A plurality of self-identified Republicans say they want Trump to have the power to take “bad” media outlets out.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/new-poll- ... down-media
Very concerning. It shows why a rock-solid constitutional provision concerning freedom of speech and the press is so important. Leaving such things up to the viscissitudes of the voting public is a bad idea, as is allowing any inroad to have government set orthodoxy or determine truth.
These are the people you side with in supporting Trump. You'd think this would make you second guess your support..
There are people of that level of idiocy on the side of the Democrats, too. I don't gauge my support of a politician on who the idiots support. If I did that, I'd never support any politician or candidate. in the arena of freedom of speech, progressive morons openly eschew freedom of speech. Some of the idiots of that ilk say "free speech" and "truth" are nothing more than white racist supremacist oppressive social constructs. I wouldn't expect anyone to second guess their support of progressive candidates for public office, just because some of their ilk take nonsense like that seriously.
You're so predictable sometimes, yet every time you shift the burden you just look like you're dodging the issue.

It's more about the sheer numbers of idiots who are republicans. I doubt you'll find nearly half of Democrats wanting to destroy one of the cornerstones of democracy.
Cornerstone's like the First Amendment and Second Amendment?
https://reason.com/blog/2015/12/17/yale ... ition-to-r

More than half of California Democrats -- https://www.mercurynews.com/2017/09/12/ ... ionalists/ and https://today.yougov.com/topics/politic ... ate-speech

Democrats voted to fine FoxNews for putting on the debate of the lesser candidates during the Presidential run. During the case, the Obama Administration lawyers argued that they could suppress books and other publications critical of politicians during campaign season. And, that's what they want to do by "bringing back Citizens United" - which was about whether someone could publish a movie or book critical of candidates within a certain time period before an election.

I'm not going to read those to see where you've misrepresented them, but you do realise other democracies don't have a first and second amendment, yeah?

I took a quick look.

Very much a hate speech/Charlottesville framing, so there may have been an inflationary effect on the answers. The Yale one had a humorous point made.
Of course, we don't know how many students declined to sign. And we don't know that those who did actually took Horowitz seriously—Reason's resident Yale alum, Katherine Mangu-Ward, said that student groups there used to circulate fake petitions all the time. Maybe everyone is in on the joke!
The other video is quite vague too. How do we know if all the no's were recorded, and if all those people were really liberals?

It's sloppy reasoning to draw conclusions from such poorly done measurements, but they make for great headlines and serve to bamboozle the ignorant.
