Sometimes life DOES seem too short

Post by Trinity » Tue Aug 27, 2013 5:41 pm

Sometimes I get such an incredible yearning to do so many things (and get good at them). It's like an insatiable hunger which I haven't even started to feed and I'm already halfway through my life (if I'm lucky).

I was thinking the other day that I would really like to know a lot more about British insects and invertebrates - but it took me so many years to get proficient at identifying wild plants and semi-competent with birds - I just don't have that amount of time to invest! :sigh:

I know :(

I want to design and build eco houses and get a cool band together and make music and I want to work with wood and stone, learn different languages, become an ace seamstress, drive rally cars, run a bohemian cafe, become an marine biologist, study herbalism, get into archaeology, learn to do parkour yadayadayadayada.

When are they going to clone humans? I need at least 10 more of me.

I rue my misspent youth and the stuff I didn't learn then because I was too busy learning something else.

When I have the energy I definitely feel the same way. I've even thought about going back to school for a useless degree -according to many- in Philosophy.

Avoid work, avoid responsibility and do stuff you find interesting for yourself. Time will standstill for you even if it is going quicker outside.

This is me.

The world is full of interesting stuff, if only I had the time, money, and energy to explore a whole lot more!

It's funny - I don't have any yearnings like these, however I do feel a great compulsion to make things happen for other people - and sometimes I wish there was more than one of me to help things along.

My great regret is that the world is going to go through all kinds of fascinating changes, and I won't be round to see them. Sob!

Yup. As I realise how much there is to learn about and do, I think that I'd like to live for at least 500 years. :lay:

It helps to find ways to do things with a few minutes at a time. Tonight I made my first custard from scratch, to be turned into amaretto ice cream tomorrow. I also looked up chords for a few songs I'd like to cover, and read some tips on improving my dslr's performance. All little things, but based around things I love and combined with a few more minutes each day this week might have some pretty nice little results

I like your approach, it seems focussed and positive. I think I just get overwhelmed by options and lack confidence to be the driver of my destiny.

I don't really think life's too short, but I do have to regularly remind myself not to let the routine get in the way too much. It's easy to to settle into a rut that feel like you don't have time to do anything at all, but with just a small adjustment in perception it's not difficult to find time to do things I enjoy or get round to doing new things I've often wanted to do. I would like more spare time, and to feel less knackered after work, but you've got to make do with what you've got, right?

I would like to still be around when the first human expedition to the last explored star system in our galaxy is complete, and the message gets back to Earth. Since the lasered message will take 70,000 years to reach us, and the physical travel orders of magnitude longer, that might be an acceptably long life.
