Is Hooters Restaurant Degrading to Women?

Honestly, I think there are plenty of restaurants that have women dressed far skimpier than Hooters, and the Hooters girls are wearing full shirts, and shorts, and it is nothing that they can't wear just walking down the street, to sporting events, to wherever.

I think it's the name, and the allusion to tits that gets people riled up. If they called it "Joe's Retaurant" and dressed the waitresses the same, nobody would complain.

That wouldn't necessarily make it "not degrading." Women choose to be prostitutes, porn stars, strippers and mud wrestlers, but those are also described as degrading to women sometimes.

I suppose it could be argued that the name itself is degrading.

Note: I don't really have a horse in this race. There are no Hooters in Ireland, or anything like it. We haven't "progressed" to that stage yet.

At least they are honest, you don't go there for the food or drinks but to ogle the staff... I know places that do the same but don't make it into an ad point.

There is another restaurant chain called "Bikini Sports Bar and Grill" and the waitresses wear bikinis.

Hooters seems to be rather playful and there is an owl on the shirt. Not sure how "degrading" that is. But, that's kind of what I'm asking. How is that degrading? A playful reference to women's breasts degrades them?

The Blue Lion.

Oh wait! You said "raceist". I guess Angels in Dublin.

Though I would call it more 'sleazy' than 'racy'.

There are a few other Eastern European run places which aren't strictly above board.

Raciest in Paris is the Crazy Horse... though the Lido and Moulin Rouge still maintain the old revue tradition, but they are not really places to go for drinks or food, even if they are mistakenly called cabarets.

I kinda see it as more degrading to men. Men go there and pay excessive tips because the waitresses pretend that the men at each table are the coolest guys in the world and engage in flirtation and banter while wearing.... t-shirts and shorts.

Hooters is o.k., I guess. The food is not bad, but the waitresses aren't generally "all that" and the clothes really aren't that skimpy.

I do remember, though - funny story -- i was at a Hooters having a beer with a friend when customers came in which included like a 12 year old boy. The 12 year old boy was transfixed on the attractive waitress. The mother scolded him for ogling. I was like - you take your 12 year old pubescent boy to Hooters and scold him for looking at the pretty girls..... yeah...that's gonna be good for his mental development....

My ex claimed that going to Hooter's was the same thing as rape. I found that a bit extreme.

They were the first of the hot wings and beer joints, but their product hasn't held up too well. Too sloppy for my tastes. My local beach bar has better wings.
