If we ever met extraterrestrials

Post by Lozzer » Tue Jun 28, 2011 10:56 am

How would we approach them if it came to first, personal contact? We can't 'do' handshakes, and neither could we suddenly engage them in conversation. Would both parties just stand there, making some para-linguistic gesticulations as if to articulate an inability to communicate?

I should say some kind of semiphore signalling using lights atatched to helicopters might help if they are staying inside their ships. This would display our level of technology as well as providing a basis of communication. :smoke:

They might have pollen allergies and take it as a sign of hostility. :hehe:

But to answer the OP, I expect the process would be similar to a Victorian explorer meeting an uncontacted Amazonian tribe for the first time, but more difficult.

There's no telling how they'd interpret our body language. A wave might be a threatening gesture to them. :ask:

If they landed and met my cousins, they'd turn around and leave.
