Why Do Clocks Run Clockwise?

Post by Atheist-Lite » Sat Apr 30, 2011 9:11 pm

The arrow of time points both ways. The past and the future are both real and scientists found they both reside in the same brain region I read. Why do clocks run clockwise? I mean they could be built to go both ways and still tell the time in keeping with the accepted course of events.

Because they "evolved" from sundials (and were invented in the Northern hemisphere)?

Indeed. And you can buy clocks that go the other way. Why there's one in one of the local pubs in Skerries. Though I suspect it's to confuse drunk people :shiver:

That doesn't explain anything. The sun and the earth rotate but the universe they rotate in doesn't have a top and and bottom. :read:

Early on there were clockwise clocks and anticlockwise clocks. Eventually clockwise became ubiquitous, much like VHS outcompeted betamax.

Some of the early anticlockwise clocks are still around, this one is in some church in europe somewhere.

Many things go clockwise. For a right handed person, the natural way to turn screws or other similar devices (wheels) is clockwise.

Being left handed I'll take your word for that.
