Though this biblical phrase is much abused, I think I know what you're getting at. Believe me, if those forums were something I needed to get over, I would have managed by now. It's no biggie. I have just noticed this thread and taken the opportunity to express my opinion about Ratzkep. My emotional investment in that forum was close to zero. Nothing traumatised me. All there was, were low levels of wistful disappointment and stoic regret in view of the path I saw it taking.

I have just noticed this thread and taken the opportunity to express my opinion about Ratzkep. My emotional investment in that forum was close to zero. Nothing traumatised me. That's just my take, not an order or even a suggestion. I have no trouble walking away from a forum if I don't like the style there. I have three forums I can't get away from, but I'm in charge there, so that's not a problem for me.

The Rational Skepticism Forum was founded to take over from RDF when it closed, and after copypasting RDF's entire forum users agreement to begin with, it continued along the same path its predecessor had taken. Rules are added and they, as well as the existing ones, modified to become ever more Byzantine. Prefects with swagger sticks apply them unevenly, sometimes utilising bizarre, ad hoc interpretations in the process, all the while remaining perfectly convinced that they are fair and doing the right thing. All this keeps happening unchecked. The atmosphere resembles that of a mix of a heavily regimented school I went to and Lord of the Flies.

Dawkins' forum was a valuable resource to me, and the Rational Skepticism forum is almost as good, but this atmosphere oppresses and depresses me to the extent that I ceased posting there a long time ago and I think before my post tally got into the three-digit range. Although it's still among my forum bookmarks, I've only looked at it in the past year, or so, when I clicked on a link elsewhere. I wish its members well, but that forum is not for me.

It's a failure to establish a consistent policy resulting in retaliation for pointing that out. I walked away from there a long time ago and never found a reason to go back.

Yeah. They are the same ones who brought RDF down. Bernanke still flying the plane from what I understand. He never did understand mountains.

Rainbow was banned for being an intractable troll. He repeatedly demonstrated a lack of willingness to engage meaningfully in threads that he joined, despite taking a large role in them and leading members into derails. Further, he continuously made inflammatory comments when questioned about a topic, went to absurd lengths to misrepresent others (whilst maintaining that he had not done so) on a regular basis, had a habit of playing word games to twist the meaning of written text out of all proportion and actively tried to provoke others into breaking the forum rules. Rainbow has been one of the most reported members here: whilst the majority of those reports were closed after giving him the benefit of the doubt for some of his borderline infringements, he was the subject of quite a substantial number of valid reports that contributed to a large number of general modnotes in threads and/or advice and warnings. Despite all the moderation he received over the course of his membership here his behaviour did not change. Therefore, after analysing his pattern of posting behaviour over a lengthy period and going over various arguments for and against this course of action, the staff voted to ban him as a troll.

In other words, they couldn't actually find any violation of the FUA to pin on me, but decided to get rid of me anyway.
