a) Finding some new bug, beetle, spider or other small animal that I've never seen before... in the woods or garden, anywhere really.

b) Because it makes me feel like a kid again, fills me with wonder and amazement, makes me marvel at the wonderful intricacies of evolution and also makes me forget, for a moment, about any problems I have in life.

These days, it's discovering new ways to take better photos. Without actually reading the manual or anything drastic like that.
