Most of the people anywhere are good people, I learned that in my travels. Flat broke in Tegucigalpa and I got a meal and place to sleep until my money came in. The folks who helped my probably made less per year than I spent on meals in Miami Beach.

Yes, good people live in ghettos, unfortunately for them. They should take it upon themselves to extirpate the thugs that make their lives so miserable. But I hardly think it's out of line to suggest that your safety as a non-ghetto different-race intruder is far more compromised than it is in, for example, your home community.

Quite correct. It's another case of the few ruining it for everybody else. Let's get rid of the bad seeds and rotten fruit so it doesn't infect the rest of society.

Now you are avoiding teh point of the opening post. It's just stuff. Most criminals don't want to rape me, and if I am alone, all they are going to get is the wallet. They just want the wallet. There were not 800 robbery homicides in Oakland

Those are the stupid ones. Sometimes they shoot you to dispose the witness and have a few hours with the credit cards. But in the end, the guy that does not shoot you got 60 dollars and may live to mug a hundred people. So what? He did not kill them. Someone will kill him on the street eventually. There is NOT any lesson I can teach this dude. He is not teachable.

You missed my point completely, T. Take an random encounter with a mugger. They want to get in and get out as quick as possible, because a fight would give the cops or other parties time to show up, However, if the thug sees you aren't going to resist or raise a ruckus they may see that as an opportunity to just have a little fun. This type of person exploits weakness. They'd rather go after Mrs. T than you, she looks to be the easier hit. But if you show no fight then you're going to be in trouble.

It's not a guarantee and I never said it was. That's why I carry a handgun as well, for those times when the warning is ineffective.

You seem to be laboring under the delusion that in a street mugging there are Marquis of Queensbury rules of conduct. There's nothing unmanly about shooting someone who is trying to kill you.

I strongly suggest you go talk to a Krav Maga instructor sometime.

But you are right, YOU get to make the choice of flight or fight, combat or capitulation. I would never presume to interfere with you right to make that decision, and I would respect your decision...while expecting you to accept all of the consequences of that decision yourself, without blaming others.

What I object to is when people like you try to interfere with MY right to choose how I will respond to a criminal predator by using specious and irrational arguments as a basis for legislating away my safety.
