Well after being there almost from day one I picked up my first warning, albeit an informal one, just the other day. And am I a wiener?

Oh, wait ... yes.

Shit. :lay:
I got my first one within days of my first post.
I got my first one after being a member for one and a half years that was taken back due to mod trigger happyness. :shifty: Hey! That makes me a good boy!

Looks like I has a reason to bitch abouts new rules and mod behaviour. :coffee:

A quick bit of research finds the offending post:

Can't say I'm surprised at the sanction, but I also can't say I blame you overmuch either. To see someone effectively boasting like that about killing cats - or indeed any animal ... :nono:

This is interesting though, given CJ's thread about how people behave online. I don't mean how you reacted, which was normal ... :eddy:

That vegetarian/vegan thing is STILL going!?

It wouldn't suprise me if the forum was made just for that thread.

As per being a wiener - I have 4 active warnings (and one rescinded warning) and am teetering on the brink of permabanning. I doubt if any of those warnings are from my first year of posting, and certainly not from the first six months. I think they've practically all been from between October 2008 and early 2009.

Topsy may also wax adamant that these are all from different mods, and there's no one that stands out and so on, but I'd be damned to find out that at least two of those weren't mostly her handiwork (or embroidery), even if she didn't do the button-pressing. I don't even think that she has any grudge or dislike or anything for me, but my posting style, even where it hasn't transgressed official rules, has often fallen foul of her arbitrary gauges for good conduct in all the subfora. Such as "no flippancy in the RD section - if you've been naughty there before", and other such rules of hers that I've yet to fully decode.

In fact one of them was given to me after she'd enacted one of her arbitrary rules of "next post with any nastiness in it gets a formal warning for the poster" (which, thankfully, I don't think she does any longer). A post of hers that I missed, for the record - before I made a post, mostly satirical in tone, and well above-board by usual forum standards, that got me a formal warning for the trouble. And then I sat arguing with her and another mod about the validity of that and they basically kept repeating to me that the "tone was insulting". It wasn't even that much - and even if it was, I don't give a flying fuck. Plenty of the tone is insulting on the forum, it definitely isn't against the rules per se, and it's beyond a joke to place these thread-specific arbitrations. I missed the little decree, and it shouldn't have been there in the first place.

I generally think she's a nice character with good humour and blah, blah, blah - but I have always had reservations for her modding style - and I just cannot stand getting into any sort of argument with her. It does not get anywhere. We talk right past each other. We don't speak the same language. You have no fucking idea how irritating it is.
Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.
Prithee, nuncle, keep a schoolmaster that can teach
thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.

Oh, I have a fair idea ... and I can particularly understand the added stress of being one step away from a permaban. This is one of the reasons not to have such a system. It causes people to feel under pressure due to increased ostracisation, and tend to desperation. It's actually quite a perverse and sadistic system in that regard and completely the wrong way to handle people ... Permanent bans and constant censure and threats of censure are irrational, emotional responses to dealing with people with divergent views, behaviour and/or personalities.

Aww I feel a bit out of place. I never got any warnings. :(

Do we have them here? If so, what do I have to do to get one?

Ask the staff nicely and we might give you a pity warning?
