Yep, but I think the Netherlands has an edge right now. That shelf water they have is perfect for this.Audley Strange wrote:I've been watching this develop. And then there's the bird guts...amused wrote:Austin Energy has some windfarms in west Texas. I was involved in some of their facility design meetings in Austin, and mentioned the windmills to one of the engineers in the meeting. He said that they were then studying a power loss issue. The windmills slowly became less efficient over the early months of operation. When they went up to inspect the blades, they discovered that the blades were coated by the hardened remains of thousands of bugs. The texture that the bugs added to the surface of the blades was enough to slow them down enough that it showed up in the energy output detection equipment.
Disrupt the laminar flow over the blades even a little and the loss of thrust (horizontal lift actually) is huge. So, now they have to stop the turbine and scrub the blades once a month, and isn't that just a stone bitch to do...on top of all the other maintenance they require.
Like I said, inefficient, ineffective, taxpayer-subsidized feel-good sops to environmental extremism that blot the landscape, kill wildlife and are noisy as hell if you happen to live within a half-mile of them...lot of low and sub-sonic resonances and whooshing.
Pure political theater, every one.

Re: Windfarms.
I would be in favour of a Register maintained by the Govt of those in favour of Wind Power and against Nuclear and Oil etc
That way, it would become possible to ration the power amongst folk......which will need to happen anyway if the Govt does not get off backside and start to allow nuclear power stations - can't fill the UK energy generation deficit by relying on French (Nuclear) Electricity forever, or much above present capacity.

But only because I suffer from an acute inability to make a decision.
Nobody knows what the price of energy is going to be. It's gone up and down all over the place over time. But now, with India and China growing like never before, as well as the third world, EVEN I would be ordering Nuclear right now. Now is the time. They should get in, and get in big. And get in quick.
And stop pissing about with inquiries. Just get on with it. Fast.

Amazon sells uranium, though it had some mixed reviews.

I purchased this product 4.47 Billion Years ago and when I opened it today, it was half empty.
Do not be fooled by this product. I bought this along with four terrapins and a rat (since I couldnt lay my hands on a warthog and a rhino). I rubbed this product into my skin and gums then rolled around with the terrapins and the rat.
Long story short I did NOT end up with my own crime-fighting mutant superhero team. The rat bit me and I crushed the terrapins. Also I now have a strange rash and Im coughing up blood, whats up with that?
Avoid.
Sent this as a Hanukkah gift to President Ahmadinejad. Got a thank you card back saying he loved it and I was his favorite infidel. Kudos to Amazon for a great product and fast shipping to Tehran.
I contacted the seller to order the 2000 Tons I would need for my, er... project, and inquired about a shipping discount for larger quantities.
Not only will the seller not offer any sort of bulk discount, they insist on shipping all orders at advertised unit size and in the pictured can!
I'm going back to the Parking Lot Libyans. At least they won't up-charge you to repackage for bulk purchases; and THEY offer Free Delivery to any mall within 50 miles of your house.
I bought this product about 3 month ago and I could't be more satisfied. But since I stored it in my basement radroaches are appering all around my house and I'm afraid of going into my basement since then.
Could anyone come and exterminate these radroaches? 300 bottlecaps reward!!!!!!!!!!!
please response quickly!!!!

Re: Windfarms.
The aborigines don't actually own much land at all. To begin with, a British act of parliament declared all of Australia to be terra nullius - land that belonged to nobody - and was therefore wholly owned by the Crown. This fiction was not overturned until the 1992 High Court decision brought on in a case by Eddie Mabo, a gardener in Townsville, Queensland in 1988. This resulted in the Native Title Act in 1993, and included severe restrictions, the chief of them being that an aboriginal community had to prove continuous possession of the land, and land currently in freehold possession by someone else cannot be claimed. There are areas where miners finished up paying royalties to Aborigines, but most mines are not on aboriginal land.Horwood Beer-Master wrote:Isn't it all on aboriginal lands or something?JimC wrote:And buy all your Uranium from Oz! New Wind-energy Policy Could Make Wind Farms Safer for Wildlife
Continues.Posted: 23 Mar 2012 08:00 AM PDT
BREAKING: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) released today voluntary guidelines for wildlife and wind energy development.
The guidelines could improve on how wind energy development is done today — encouraging the use of the best available scientific information and early public engagement in a project’s planning phase, as well as post-construction wildlife monitoring and a comprehensive strategy for mitigating unavoidable impacts.
“Wind energy is an important part of our clean energy future, but to fully realize the benefits of wind power, projects have to be built in the right ways and right places to avoid and minimize their impacts on wildlife,” said Jamie Rappaport Clark, Defenders’ president and CEO. “If implemented correctly, these guidelines will become part of a larger approach that encourages renewable energy companies to be ‘smart from the start’.”
The guidelines apply to private and public lands, imperiled wildlife (like many bat species) not already protected by the Endangered Species or Migratory Bird Treaty acts, and habitats not under FWS’ jurisdiction – lessening the likelihood that wind energy projects will further threaten species in decline.

There's plenty of methane right here on earth, at the bottom of the oceans, in the form of methane hydrate ice nodules that can be harvested. Methane hydrate layers underground are one of the causes of the oil leak disaster in the gulf of Mexico. All that's needed is a deep-mining technology capable of finding and vacuuming up the nodules from the ocean floor.Crumple wrote:Methane is the future. And then there's all the natural gas...
But the global warming nitwits won't let us drill for it...
