I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops. - Stephen J. Gould

In this world there's two kinds of people: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.
When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk.
Happy Trails.

You're quite welcome. Gawdzilla has convinced me of the errors of my ways, I was wrong to try to be nice to you Ratz. I'll just be an asshole from now on and claim 'Ratzian spirit'! (Ratzian.. get it? .. The Pope? Just a funny little irony).

Re: Our obsession with quotes
If anyone is still thinking about the OP after all that...
I don't have a problem with short and pithy quotes in general if a person is using them appropriately and considers what they mean. Sometimes you want to express an idea and you are aware that someone has already done a fabulous job of saying it already. In that case, go right ahead. However, it is slightly annoying when someone chooses contradictory aphorisms to justify their actions at different times.
For example, "Better safe than sorry" and "Nothing ventured, nothing gained". These pre-packaged nuggets of wisdom really only express part of an idea, because they really require context and a situation-based analysis of risk and possible benefits. I guess that usually doesn't make for a memorable saying, though.
