I'd actually like to see evidence that a small cadre of vocal, sanctimonious, internet feminists is mainstream, not by posting articles by this lot, but rather by posting polls which show the popularity of the extreme views.

Exactly. That was my point to the contrarian-bot that posting an article by a feminist isn't indicative of what is or isn't mainstream. Something like 80% of the population supports feminism as it is defined - social equality for women. That's what's mainstream.

Bottom line is, you think feminism means whatever you personally believe, and that must be what the real, mainstream, normal, rational feminism is -- your position amounts to this: "because, like, it's what my friends and I think, and you know, this lady whose name I don't remember, she sounds pretty reasonable too, because, like, I heard her like, say stuff at a press club event and she sounded eminently reasonable. That's how I know that the long list of prominent feminist activists, speakers, protesters, academics, etc., and the long list of books, articles, and other published materials expounding on feminist theory are just outlying, non-mainstream positions that really have nothing to do with True Feminism...."
