So we just make it illegal to destroy heritage items, this is already the case for many examples.

The problem is your shoe box rights just don't upscale well enough to cover more important things, so we need new laws.

That's exactly what I'm talking about, collectivist fascism. Why don't you just BUY those "heritage items" from their owners if you value them so much? And how do you plan to identify all those "heritage items" much less inventory them and keep someone from taking that painting you've never heard of (or have, but don't know who has it) and stuffing it in the fireplace to avoid having it seized by the greedy mob?

It would be so much easier, and more fair, if you'd just pay for what you desire rather than trying to steal it through regulatory takings.

I find it highly amusing that you consider the right to own property a "shoe box" right. Presumably you won't mind if I come over and take everything YOU own from you without asking and turn it to my use. Usually I find that the collectivistic attitude about such things lasts right up until the preservationist's ox is gored.
