...There's a certain moral hypocrisy with treating animals humanely who are gonna die at your hands isn't there?..

Is there? Would you apply that to humans sentenced to death as well, and allow a policy of "All bets are off on how prison guards are allowed to treat death-row inmates"?

I mean don't get me wrong, my opinion of those American states that execute people is already fairly low - but it'd get lower still if those prisoners spent the time leading up to their death having guards boot them in the testicles every evening.


In fact the more I think about it (going off topic here), the more I think torture (of the proper kind they practice in real shitty countries) is a far more morally reprehensible crime then straight forward swift clinical murder. As not only does it normally increase the totality of suffering in the world more, but it also takes a much worse kind of human being to do it.

I'd feel uncomfortable sharing a train carriage with the kind of person who can kill an innocent stranger without flinching, but I feel uncomfortable sharing a planet with the kind of person who can torture without flinching.
