But certainly a Westerner walking down certain streets hand in hand with a 12yo Thai girl does get funny looks - from other Westerners. The Thais are lot more subtle - and can tell a relationship (business or family) with a quick glance. The funnier (and more common) reaction is from Western women who do tend to view any Western Fella with a Thai woman as punter and whore. To be fair, depending on where that encounter is the odds can be good they are correct
or failing that the Thai woman is being oppressed

.........FWIW, I caught a few overheard comments about others and looks towards meself over the years (yer just look through irrelevent people). None of them ever said anything to me / her (or about, that I or she overheard) - that reticence probably not so much to do with me, more to do with the fact that upon closer inspection the Missus had a certain air of menance about her - even when not actively trying . If she had twigged someone was "dissing her" likely she would told them to f#ck off and then punched 'em - or killed them (never really very much inbetween with her
