I've read Dune and Dune Messiah several times, and I don't get it either... must be from the later, shitty volumes.Drewish wrote:Never read Dune, so I'm not getting the joke.Crumple wrote:You been reading too much Dune.Drewish wrote:Religious zealot has child. Progressive Christian has child. That child becomes an atheist who is a cultural Christian.
Atheist / cultural Christian has child. That child becomes a true atheist.

I enjoyed Dune, though I didn't share the "classic of sci-fi literature" appraisal of it. (A lot of it was boringly derivative.) However the last few books in the series got rather creepy.
Oh, and regarding the OP, I've recently discovered that Dawkins is a clueless dingbat when it comes to religion. (I mean after all the ambiguous and ambivalent comments about things like teaching children religion.) I haven't bothered to read the whole section in The God Delusion, and I doubt I will now, because according to Dawkins, I don't exist. (At least not according to the "Dawkins scale". I remember visiting RDF last year for the first time, to be greeted by photos of Herr Dick in the banners that were more befitting Moses than a scientist. I threw up in my mouth a little. Honest. True story.)
