What are you playing now?

Heh.

Been playing TF2 all day. At first I was like... this is shit.
Then I was like... hmmmm.
And now I can't tear myself away.
Just one bummer... which ass head made it so you can spawn camp on the dustbowl level? FFS... it took them long enough to make without
And considering how long it took them, 6 levels is poxy.

Killing Floor - good stress reliever, but not worth the price I paid for it. Plays more like a Mod than an independant game.

Playing Darksiders at the mo'. Bit of a rip of GoW and, according to some website, The Legend of Zelda also (never played it). The game is fucking massive and the puzzles are tricky and there's lots of shit to collect (maybe too much). On the downside, the controls are wonky at times and sometimes you run toward the edge of a platform and your about to press jump and he falls off prematurely. It's like the edges are in a little bit from where they look like they are so you have to get used to pressing jump a bit earlier than you would normally.

Fallout New Vegas - Until you hit the strip, it's dull. Exploration seems clunky compared to F3, although this might just be unfamiliarity with the whole thing.
We'll see.
One problem is that compared to F3, the weapon models/textures look like a fart.

Ah New Vegas...
I realise the biggest problem I had with Vegas was the atmosphere, largely in part due to the lack of polish - somethign Obsidian has become infamous for. The underlying mechanics and story, the way you interact with the different factions, is actually enormously enjoyable and entertaining, particularly because there are a number of different decisions you can make - three different primary factions (Well, two and the 'independant' option) and another five or six optional factions to make your ally, your enemy, or to simply obliterate. Or ignore. Or manipulate.
And the sidequests are just as varied. The ability to work for one side in a quest only to switch half-way through, opening up an entirely different series of objectives, is something that more roleplaying games need to offer. Games that do include this option generally throw it in as an additive on one or two quests. New Vegas allows you to do this in most of the sidequests and the main quest itself.
But first impressions matter. Every character was just wrong, like the devs at Obsidian kept hitting random on the Fallout 3 character generator and imported whatever came up first. The weapons looked like the stains left on the Terminator's toiler paper, and the voice acting sounded open mic night at the barn. It looked and sounded like an ambitious Fallout 3 mod. But it didn't seem worth the money I paid for it.
Not until my first real playthrough did the game really pick up - and only because I downloaded two mods which improved weapon and character designs to be similar, but neater.
And now? Well, it's a game which is more than just 'solid', it's recommendable. It is sufficiently different from Fallout 3 - at it's core - to justify being a standalone game. Like most Obsidian games the writing is a little iffy and it lacks a final polish, but what is there is a game which really stands out as a shining example of what this company is capable of. Now if they could just get some decent fucking voice actors...

Currently playing:
RDR (PS3. I had it on the 360 but the console died before I completed it. Can't be bothered buying a new one. Best exclusives are on the PS3 anyway.)
FIFA 11 (PS3. On and off, breaking up the other games.)
Osmos (iOS)
What I'm really wanting in 2011:
The Last Guardian (PS3. They made the best PS1 game and the best PS2 game... here's hoping it's more of the same.)
Portal 2 (Not decided what system I want it on.)
Uncharted 3 (PS3)
Mass Effect 3 (PS3. Might as well finish the story.)
Deux Ex Human Revolution (PS3. This is going to be epic or the biggest possible disappointment. I don't think there's a middle ground.)
I'm also really interested in the 3DS but want to see how the domestic launch goes and have a play with it before I jump in.

Re: What are you playing now?
Playing Arkham Asylum. It has a great style and really feels like Batman but it's also a little boring and easy. I'm only after very, very easily dispatching Scarecrow. I would hope the game will start getting more complicated and interesting. I'm not sure how many Batman villains are in the whole thing so it could be really early days.
I haven't died yet.

My penis.
In this world there's two kinds of people: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.
When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk.

How do you play your penis? I'm sure there's a meat-whistle joke in here somewhere, but I don't know if you're that flexible.
"Oooh, good, saffron! I wanted to buy a Diet Coke and the vending machine doesn't take nutmeg."
Re: What are you playing now?
I have arms, hands, fingers, opposable thumbs, silicon lube, and a good collection of porn starring Sasha Grey.
