Urgent need to buy 15 audio books by August 1st
I didn't know credits from Audible expired
We buy them annually as that is the cheapest per book.
We have 469 titles already
We are most likely buying the 3 x LOTR titles today once I run the narrator by partner.
Leaves a dozen to go.....longer is better - throw in your fav book ever
Likes are - and I try for books that are knock outs...not run of the mill when paying for audio books
These are not in any order of importance
Top end popular science books like Song of the Dodo, Beak of the Finch
Science fiction books. Ideally series. Peter Hamilton, Bujold, The Expanse etc, - not too old tho ie Foundation is too dated.
Fantasy series and YA is fine but needs to have wowed you - King Killer Chronicles if he ever finishes the fucking third one , the books GoT were based on Song of Fire and Ice etc, and Robin Hobbs 9 book series
Scandanavian Noir - Dragon Tattoo series, Smillas Sense of Snow.
Biography.......Truman was incredible, so was Spirit of St Lous
True History and Adventure - like Into Thin Air and other climbing books that are factual and exciting.
I'll accept top end series like the 21 book Master and Commander series by Patrick O'Brian that are based on actual history but with fictional characters.
I guess they are my fall back as have not read in a while and listening would be a treat and cut into next years credits.
Even if I don't grab on audio books .....I might want on eBook so fire away with ideas.
TIA
I buy Chirp daily deals when they come by and I'm interested - https://www.chirpbooks.com - I have 59 of these.
Quite a few unread but the books on Audible or Chirp do not expire.

Anything by Robert E Howard if you're into adventure (and sometimes horror) yarns... well, his palette was a bit wider than that, but I do admit that his swords and sorcery, historical adventure, and cthulhu stuff is ma fav, as opposed, say, to boxing stories. I hear he was great at western stuff, but the only parts of it I found are horror related.
It's mostly short stories, but a lot of them (and of course, quite a few get to novella length, there may even be a few full novel length ones).

No horror interest. No short story interest but swords and sorcery okay ...if you had to pick one novel ...what would it be
Freebie - lots of free audio books mostly classics...ie A free Moby DIck on audio is a treat but it is MP3 chapter by chapter
https://etc.usf.edu/lit2go/authors/
Mark Twain kinda neat
https://etc.usf.edu/lit2go/audio/mp3/th ... 1.5430.mp3

One down ....
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2011/ ... q84-review
up for a Nobel prize perhaps and set in Tokyo in the 80s so will bring back memories
Best of all 47 hours on Audible that's about 10-12 two hour mcycle rides.
It gets me out there if I'm being a slug as I want to continue the book

well, his only novel, the Hour of the Dragon. Of course, you just might pick up the complete Conan Stories...macdoc wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 8:00 amNo horror interest. No short story interest but swords and sorcery okay ...if you had to pick one novel ...what would it be

I'd also recommend Solomon Kane, but I'm not sure if that's too close to horror for you, I guess that Kull is safer, more dreamy too.

I've never done Audible, but I would imagine books by Richard Dawkins or Stephen Gould on evolution are good. I got a 3-month trial during Prime Days, but I haven't used it. I wonder if Consilience is on Audible.

Dawkins no interest tho I've read some ..Stephen Gould a potential - will look.
I adore E.O Wilson but I suspect I should read it rather than listen.

.....
Hmmm - Conan ...been a long time..is there a sequence?
Cover art on Conan is epic Franzetta appears to be the artist.
I wonder why Marvel has not put Conan into the MCU.

Thanks ....free for me on Kindle+. I'm an English major so reading comprehension not so much an issue as fading memory ....
Good thing about that is old movies and books I've read in the past are fresh, even if they don't stick.
I still have uncounted books I haven't gotten to yet but need to use up these credits....

Re: Urgent need to buy 15 audio books by August 1st
I decided on my first Audible book: "Behave: The Biology of Humans at Our Best and Worst" by Robert Sapolsky.
I discovered something a bit perverse tonight. I never got into the TV series Game Of Thrones, but I've been a big George R.R. Martin fan from a long way back. While it wouldn't otherwise be a top pick, the GOT books when not purchased with credits are exorbitantly expensive. I may try to hammer down the GOT books in series using credits and then just pay for the less expensive titles that I want.
