Podcasts
Since podcasts are such a revolutionary thing, I have been, of course, ignoring them for a long time.
WOW was I ever missing out!
It isn't easy to find the best of them, but I'll put some here, and hopefully you will, too.
To start us off,
I even found one with a transcript, for those who dislike listening...

Werner Herzog is a BADASS. I didn't know he was shot in the gut, on film. I was impressed by his response. The man is committed to his work, in a way that is truly admirable.
He said 'always carry boltcutters'. It says lots about his style of filmmaking.

The 'Walsh Question' 'What Is A Woman?' I'll put an answer here when someone posts one that is clear and comprehensible, by apostates to the Faith.
Update: I've been offered one!

Re: Podcasts
Malcolm Gladwell has some great ones, the podcast is called 'Revisionist History'.
This one is his favourite, and may well be mine.

I a bit old skool - I don't have a TV and still mostly listen to music, both at home and on the go.

Maybe 'podcast' isn't clear, but I download them (audio files) to my phone, and listen on my run.Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 9:09 pmI a bit old skool - I don't have a TV and still mostly listen to music, both at home and on the go.
You wouldn't get these recommendations. For you personally, I think I would recommend the Weinstein/Sir Penrose episode, because I think you like math you don't understand.
(if you think that was some kind of insult - reread it - it wasn't)

I like Revisionist History. The two episode series: A Polite Word for Liar and Free Brian Williams, In season 3 is a favorite.

Re: Podcasts
I don't "get" anything from audio only. Well, music maybe. Otherwise I need the person tallking on video, like a Ted talk. The audio only keeps me occupied maybe 2 minutes.
In college I took history classes because the subject interested me. But since the books had few pictures, I had to read each section twice. I was the extreme vusual end of learner. The part of chemistry I ended up in is to do with structures, drawings of molecules. Not numbers.
Fiction keeps me tuned a bit longer, the plot is able to grab me.
Thinking back, the Russian history book, several hundred pages, only had maybe 5 maps. One explained the river system, the rest the expansion and union of various kingdoms, marriages and takevoers by czars.

Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Re: Podcasts
I can listen to interviews. Hearing 2 voices gives me a "visual." I liked Terry Gross interviews sitting at my desk at work. We did not have internet then when I listened every day.

This is the two brothers interviewing each other. I was a bit unsettled by how they explained our mice are broken, but I did enjoy the way they dug into each other a bit. Like family.

Mike Rowe, of Dirty Jobs fame, does a good one called 'The Way I Heard It'.
This one, about a tough-as-fuck US President, is a good one.

Sounds like a 'justice' kind of guy.

OK. You are now carrying out an actual dialog in this thread. Instead of trolling or attempting humor. Congrats.

Re: Podcasts
So find some damned podcasts, Tero! The beauty of them is that audio files are small, and no-one has to be able to read to get the message. It democratizes information in ways that books kind of did.
Share the good ones here, PLEASE.
Also, consider 'librivox.org'. Either getting your (out of copyright) literature on audio, or volunteering your voice to read your faves.

Re: Podcasts
One of the daily audio news shows I've been enjoying is by Tim Pool.
His hat is silly, so are some of his vocal styles, but he seems fairly reasonable, and mostly doesn't attack people stupidly. (I'm thinking of the CNN guy laughing at republican voters on his show recently...Dawn Lemons I think)
Anyway, Tim is pretty consistent, and fairly thorough on some stories.

The Femsplainers.
Tried a couple of these, they are kind of light, more 'wine and bs' than some of the others, but it occasionally gets deeper.
