Book reviews snippets...game

WARNING: Spoilers allowed.

OK, sort of a game. You find a fairly well known author or book and post a snippet of a review. Then people, without googling the actual review snippet, guess the book. You can also write your own paragraph long review.

We will call this BOOK 1. You can add books at random, but keep it under control.
BOOK 1
To start with the book has gaping plot holes. Belowth the Wise for one, the Raz'ac, how Galbatorix knew about half the stuff that went on (through spies who are never revealed and the issue is never resolved), and then there's Orrin's sudden and completely random drinking and anger and complete pig-headedness. But then other reviewers have covered these, so I'll move on.

My second complaint is the fact that the books drags on unnecessarily. I actually put this book down. A lot.

BOOK 2
He knows that his theory can't explain everything. In the epilog he points out that China, India and the Middle East are good counter examples to his idea. They each had an expansionist rise to great power--a time when they were unafraid to try new ideas and explore new ways of doing things. If the highly complex forces of economics, politics, religion had arrayed themselves differently. We might all be speaking Arabic now. Or Cantonese. Europe was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time for things to come together as they did.
