Spiderman dead! How could they do this!?

Post by Rum » Thu Aug 04, 2011 7:55 am

I have just discovered that Spiderman was 'killed off' in June by Marvel comics!

I haven't read the comics for a long time, but I was around (and owned!) Number 1s of Spiderman, The Fantastic Four, Avengers and several other Marvel comics back in my early teens and grew up with them. I was a huge fan. (If only I had kept those #1 issues!!).

So anyway they decided to kill him off!

..without even asking me if it was OK! How could they! A part of my life has gone...

He's being replaced by a Black-Hispanic kid.

They reboot comic book stories all the time. It's no big deal. :dunno:

Ultimate Spiderman was a re-imaging of Spiderman started in 2000 were it was decided, after 40 years of back story, to start again from the beginning, from scratch (kinda like the new movie is doing). I'm sure they have something else lined up.

No. If they want to reboot one of the versions of Peter Parker in a few years time, they will (and I've no doubt they will).

They do - a mixed race kid who looks suspiciously like Obama to me!

Actually Peter Parker and his whole Zeitgeist was pretty worn out in my view. He was always a copy of Clark Kent if you think about it - mild mannered and physically a bit weak to counterbalance the super-powers. Mind you that is on the basis of not having read the comics for the last five or more years.

Remember Miguel O'Hara?

It's not the first time Marvel did this, won't be the last time either.

DC Comics are rebooting their entire universe. 52 titles will all start back at issue #1. Spiderman has it easy!
