Still reading the Great Stink but also have The Peregrine Falcon by Derek Ratcliffe on the go and have just started The Confusion by Neal Stephenson. So that's the rest of this years reading quota accounted for.....

Reading the rest of this.

I know I said I was reading it posts ago but, I read the first chapter and forgot about it. I found it in me drawer in work.

I love those "very short introductions". Brief, concise, and to the point.

I read a good review in the New Scientist and it sounded interesting. I'm only 12 pages in, I'm glad I bought it. It's sarcastically funny and gets straight to the point.

I'm attempting The Ship of Ishtar, by A. Merritt. Again. It's supposed to be one of the great classics of fantasy, but I find it unreadable.
"Her eye was on the sparrow. Her mind was on the dove,
But no one cared and no one dared to speak to her of love.
Her eyes are always hooded. Her claws are sharp as steel.
We teach her not to see too much. We teach her not to feel."

Try reading anything by Jo Clayton - I am currently re-reading her Drinker of Souls series...

Only about 150 pages, but packed with lots of stuff I didn't know, especially about the economics of the time. It's more than just the "brief history of kings" that most of that type of book end up being.

What a book. Hilariously funny ... but at the same time, there's something deeply sad about it. It's the first Vonnegut I've ever read - there'll be more.

First one I read too - a long while ago.

Slaughterhouse 5 is a must. As are Cat's Cradle, Sirens of Titan, Player Piano and Mother Night. Everything else is worth the read though. He had a unique view on the world and a beautifully detached way of writing about it.

I didn't expect to find this either interesting or enjoyable, but to my surprise it's both. Found it on the bookshelf of where I'm staying on holiday, and just picked it up out of curiosity - I'm glad I did. I find parts of it unconvincing, but there's a lot in it I can relate to (so far; I'm not very far into it yet).
