That part creeps me out as well. The book is fine until the kid hits puberty and she starts sneaking into his room, that's when it takes a pretty weird turn.
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away

Maybe the books was based on Bates's childhood.

You can't spell smother without mother.
Anyway, that Narnia crap. I had a teacher when I was 6 who forced us to read the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe in class. She was an annoying religious nut, a wife of a Wee Free minister who two years later was all over the papers for fucking tonnes of parishioners and having about a half dozen bastards. Anyway Lady fucking Pious gave us this piece of shit about the same time my parents were trying to make me read either the Hobbit or Metamorphosis. either way the result was that when she was all ready to give us the shock reveal that Aslan was Jesus, she asked "does anyone know who the lion represents?" I said "It's Jesus?"
She said "how did you guess?"
I was dragged to the headmistress for insubordination when I said "Because you never stop talking about Jesus."
My mother was brought to the school to try and scare me into apologising. However I recall that it ended up that she got kicked out of her job because other parents were a bit concerned about her cooping a primary school class to indoctrinate kids. To be fair I seem to remember we all found her crap implausible.
So yeah bad memories.

I really liked the Narnia series because I read it without any thoughts of religion and was able to enjoy them as fantasy books without anyone trying to force the jesus message on me.

Yeah, I probably would have too. We had another teacher who had a big anti-nazi thing, who made us read things like "When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit" (and for some reason a book I think might have been called Someone Something and the Phantom Toolbooth. I'm really dragging the memory lake here so it might be wrong or I might be making it up, my long term memory not easily accessed.

It was all cool, hansel and gretel, captain hook and all.
But I didn't care for any of it after I could read Disney comix.
Well OK I had my dose of Narnia.

I loved The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe as a child. I didn't even know about the Christian element until the Neeson film came out a few years ago.

One of my favourite books as a child.
A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.

I remember when my friends in high school started reading the Narnia books because the books had religious themes. Cursed Catholic school!

I absolutely love this book! I have 2 copies! I do think its not to be taken literally, it's for kids! Most kids books aren't meant to be taken literally. It's symbolic of the never ending love between a mother and child, that no matter he old your child is, he's still your baby.tattuchu wrote:Maybe it's not meant to be taken literally but rather symbolically?
