I think this is one of those times where society relaxes a little more and lets "ordinary" people read stuff that they never would have been "permitted" to before. It's the dropping of a taboo, so to that end, it's probably a welcome step, in that sexual exploration becomes more approachable, and "deviancy" edges closer to "actually this is cool with me, and what you do for fun is up to you". I could probably have phrased that better.

It may be badly written, but it's popularising, and bringing into public, things which no-one dared speak of before in polite company. (Ratz excluded, of course.)

But, as I saw elsewhere on the same subject, there's better smut out there.

Yeah, I haven't seen any of it but so-called erotica usually doesn't have much effect on me. Meh.

The Fifty Shades trilogy was developed from a Twilight fan fiction originally titled Master of the Universe and published episodically on fan-fiction websites under the pen name "Snowqueens Icedragon"

My wife said it's basically Mills and boon with a tad of BDSM and preposterous plots.

Derivative nonsense, poorly written = Massive Profit.

Harry Potter
Davinci Code
Hunger Games
Twiglit (sic)
and now this.

Good luck to them I say. Writing Prolefeed deserves it's financial rewards since even the worst hack has to dumb it down to write at that level and still consider themselves a writer. It must take it's toll psychologically.

Ths place is full of book snobs. I look at it the same as people watching sitcoms or B movies. They may not be worthy of pullitzers or Oscars, but they're entertaining. And, for someone like me with only 10 minutes here, 20 minutes there, books that are 'dumbed down' are easier to start and stop. I say just about anything that gets people actually reading is good!

I like silly books, Robert Asprin for one, but don't get much time for that. If it's not something I know I will like it doesn't pop up on the radar.

I've still not finished The God Delusion. I need to be able to sit and read in peace and quiet for a couple hours for books like that. I get that about once a year. :ddpan:

I read the first page that was offered for free on B&N.com and couldn't believe anybody would bother reading any more of it. :ani: :|~

I didn't get by the first paragraph on the link I posted on the previous page with the whole first chapter.
It has been pointed out to me that in the second paragraph the name of the company owned by Grey is Grey Enterprises Holdings which is a tautology as both 'enterprises' and 'holdings' suggest a company which consists of more than one venture. It's like saying, Dunnes Shop Store.

Maybe Dunnes Shop Store is a shop that sells stores. :tea:

I think it's funny that when the heroine loses her virginity she says "Aaaaaargh!"
