Re: Crime fiction
Thanks, I thought so.

But no one cared and no one dared to speak to her of love.
Her eyes are always hooded. Her claws are sharp as steel.
We teach her not to see too much. We teach her not to feel."

Re: Crime fiction
I was younger, and willing to put up with more for a good story. In any case, I feel like one purpose of reading is to meet new people. When I met Chesterton, I met a highly intelligent man who was still a Christian. That was interesting. How he felt about it was interesting. His description of Satan sitting on the cathedral, "big as a hundred elephants and roaring like the apocalypse," was really cool.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:Just so long as you side-step his xtian apologetics!Bella Fortuna wrote:GK Chesterton, yes.

Re: Crime fiction
I suppose you mean 'met' metaphorically, as Chesterton died in the 1930s...

Very intelligent and an excellent writer. He had a long, often adversarial but always friendly relationship with GBS.Red Katie wrote:I was younger, and willing to put up with more for a good story. I remember seeing the Father Brown series with Kenneth More on TV as a kid and read some of the FB short stories in my teens. I liked them at the time but they have a bit too much religion in them for my taste these days.

Have you ever read any of the "Brother Cadfael" books by Ellis Peters, set in the 12th century Shrewsbury?Michael Corleone wrote:Very intelligent and an excellent writer. Quite good, with Brother Cadfael as a calm but cunning old monk (who joined his order late in life, after being a crusader) who helps the local authorities solve crimes...
Obviously, they have a religious dimension, but really only as background...

Re: Crime fiction
I've only seen a few of the TV adaptations, I'm afraid. I didn't know that the author was actually a woman either, until I looked it up on wiki.JimC wrote:Have you ever read any of the "Brother Cadfael" books by Ellis Peters, set in the 12th century Shrewsbury?Michael Corleone wrote:Very intelligent and an excellent writer.
