Hitch-22: A Memoir

Her defeat and despair were also mine for a long time, but I have reason to know that she wanted me to withstand the woe, and when I once heard myself telling someone that she had allowed me "a second identity" I quickly checked myself and thought, no, perhaps with luck she had represented my first and truest one.

I was skimming through it in the shop. Would love to get it but money constraints mean I won't be getting it this side of September.

The book is pure Hitchens, and it has forever changed the way I view the man - and indeed a lot of things about life.

I'm not even half-way yet, and I'm in agony over the many quotes and passages I would love to share on RatZ. Which ones to pick - how to choose? This book is food for thought as well as hilarious and a really, really enjoyable read.
"The internet is made of people. People matter. This includes you. Stop trying to sell everything about yourself to everyone. Don’t just hammer away and repeat and talk at people—talk TO people. It’s organic. Make stuff for the internet that matters to you, even if it seems stupid. Do it because it’s good and feels important. Put up more cat pictures. Make more songs. Show your doodles. Give things away and take things that are free." - Maureen J

Well I finally finished it! Took me long enough. The last third is far too long and has too much detail. But the first 2/3 is great reading. An insight into a man I much admire.

I finished it recently, too! I liked the last chapter, if only for his insight into his Judaic ancestry and whatever, and alternative perspective on the history of genocide and the 'Jewish question' of the Israeli state. The first chapter made me cringe a little, it was a regrettable introduction to how ironic life can truly be.
