Should I read Game of Thrones?

Post by Rum » Sun Mar 04, 2012 5:15 pm

Anyone read it? I have a free copy on my Ipad and the reviews I have read say it is the best fantasy read for years (well it was published in 1998). I used to read fantasy but not for years, plus it is thousands of pages long!

Anyone read it? What do you think of it? Worth investing a few reading weeks?

It's quite good, as I recall. Sme good villains anda much epicness. It is very long, though.

I've recently finished all of the series so far, I'm not the biggest fan of swords and sorcery and the like, but Martin, to me, is an excellent and often surprisingly clever writer. Most of the characters are well developed and its often very dark and bleak.

The first book though is practically a prologue, be warned.

I started volume one, read partway through it and liked what I read well enough that I bought vol2, but nonetheless dropped off some time later with something like 1/3 to 1/2 of the book unread yet.
Of course, this may be more due to my inability to stay on track than to the book turning out to be a dropper.

Well to be fair to you, it is rather convoluted.
