Can't be worse than the original.

Not I. Looking forward to Rocky XXIV. That's the one where the producers will exhume Stallone's carcase in order to star him. The best thing is that nobody will see any difference in his acting.

I'm sure I remember a scene in a movie set in the future where there is a poster for Rocky XVIII or something like that in the background. :hehe: I wonder if it was the 5th Element. Or maybe it was Back To The Future.

actually, it can, cruise is 20 or 30 years too old to be a pilot now, and I fear his role will be godawful... I fear this might be the F16 version of Karate Kid.

It could be OK if it is done right. Cruise is actually not that bad an actor, and he does quirky comedy quite well (think Jerry McGuire and The Edge of Tomorrow). It probably depends if they try and make it too serious. If they take the piss slightly, it could work.

I can't see anyone aged 55 reprising the role of top gun itself. If Cruise is in it, he'll probably be assigned the role of an ageing instructor or something like that.

I think we can already predict what will happen. Cruise is either an instructor, but more likely a washed up old has-been who lost the plot when Kelly McGillas (spelling) was killed in a car accident, but when the Chinese/Russians invade he'll be called back into action, as he's the only one who can defeat them.

I honestly hope it's not like that, but that's a formula that Hollywood has been using for ages and it wouldn't surprise me if they pulled it out for this one.

Or maybe there's some reason they have to use an F1 (or whatever it was) and he is the only pilot around who knows how to fly them.

The original was pure hokum - terrible but hokum. Cowboys and testosterone in the sky. The sequel will no doubt be the same.

I think the summaries say he's now the flight instructor. "This new film will be set in the world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters, and explore the end of an era of dogfighting. Other plot details are vague, but Val Kilmer has said that he was asked to come back to reprise the role of Iceman opposite Cruise’s Maverick."

“Aviators are back, the need for speed. We’re going to have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one … but a progression for Maverick,” Cruise teased.

He also said that Harold Faltermeyer will return to score the movie, which will be “stylistically” similar to the original.

The original was not a bad mindless action flick. Maybe this sequel (not a reboot) will be in the same vein.
