Ready Player One - Will it be good or shit?

Well, which will it be? I'm in two minds about the trailers and haven't read the book so I'm subcontracting my opinion to the Rationalia Hive Mind.

The trailer looks good - and it will be visually very appealing I' sure but the trailer makes the plot appear a bit derivative. Await reviews!

Great place to return to The Eighties if my back hadn't gone and I didn't resemble my dad at the time when looking in the mirror.

These days,. we only get to the cinema if we take the spawn with us, which currently restricts us to anything up to a 12A. MH1 loves dystopian sci-fi, so she's reasonably excited about this film.

It's latter-day, Grandaddy Speilberg. It'll be shit.

This is our concern, Dude.

It was quite cool to see the Delorean in the trailer. MH1 thought Maze Runner Death Cure was good, so she's easily pleased.

Anyone read the book?

I read the book this week. It's not great literature, but it's an excellent story that could transfer well to film. I hope they do it justice.

Is this about the Winter Lymics?

Finally got around to watching this. I finished the book some months ago. They changed a lot around - certainly a lot of the specific cultural references I suspect for copyright reasons - and I didn't mind that because it still had plenty of nostalgia and game references. And even some major alterations to the plot in terms of who does what, but that was fine too, worked well for the movie, even improved it in places. And they kept well to the overall plot and major themes and concepts the book explored. But I did feel it was all slightly too PG Spielberg family film. The outside world in the book seemed a lot more gritty, darker, and real. There was more at stake. In the movie they didn't even have one of the Five killed, and I think it needed something like that for a bit more tension. It felt like there was never any doubt that it would have a happy ending.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]
