I agree with you about Kermode's reviews. If you love film and you don't know about it the podcast I refered to (it is a longer version of the 5Live friday afternoon show) is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00lvdr ... /downloads

Seeing the film tomorrow so I will post my own take on it afterwards.

It seems Kermode has personal investment in Blade Runner.

I can agree about the visuals and the score. There's no doubt they were amazing, but he talks about it tackling the existential questions about what it means to be human. I think the questions were touched on, hinted at, but not in any meaningful way. Ex Machina and Her done this way better in recent years. In fact I'd go as far to say the sex scene is a rip off of a similar scene in Her except far less impactful, despite being more flashy. So to me Blade Runner is too little too late.

My turn. Just got back from seeing it.

First thing to say is I really enjoyed it, despite the gloomy tone of it all. I thought the length was justified. It created a believable world by immersing the viewer in it. A big screen added to that. Long slow shots were the order of the day, but that was deliberate too of course and made a real change from action films where there's a jump cut every half second. It smacked of confidence in what they were doing.

Plot suitable twisty, though quite easy to spot a twist coming at the end (no spoilers) and great acting I thought.

So it is a matter of taste I guess. Personally I would recommend it - so long as you are willing to sit back and let the film take over.

I think I'm going to enjoy this film when I eventually get to see it. Does it have the same 'feel' as the first?

Very much so. The makers clearly loved the original.

Wasn't keen on it first time, even if it is a cult following thing. Failed geeks movie full of passive aggression and stale quips that you couldn't take a girl friend to see....nothing much has changed.

A slight rethink here. 24 hours later the film hasn't stayed with me. I certainly enjoyed it but I'm left feeling it was slightly... hollow is the only word I can come up with. Perhaps half an hour off the running time woukd have helped.

Don't be put off if you are planning on seeing it. I'm not panning it just dropping my notional score by a point or so.
