It was well done. Oscar nominated for animation, i think. It is a children's film but doesnt shy from tough subjects. And only 66 mins long.Rum wrote:I've read good reviews about My Life as a Courgette. Are they justified?

We watched Blade Runner 2049 last night. I really liked it. It actually felt like a sequel to the original.

Yeah, Ani, I am glad you were wrong on this one. I really enjoyed it. It may not stand up to the original in every way, but it was beautifully filmed, well acted and like Papa said, really felt like a proper sequel. I will definitely be watching it again.

Wrong? No. I'm right. It's The Emperor's New Clothes inverted. The clothes have no emperor inside.

Saw Tom Cruise: The Movie XI last night. In this one Tom Cruise, as himself, runs guns for the CIA and drugs for Pablo Escobar.

I can't remember the last time I watched a movie, either in the cinema or on TV.

Going to see the new Thor this afternoon. You are never too old for some popcorn thrills..if they are done well.
Re: Movies of the good kind we have looked upon.
The new Thor is hilarious. Practically a parody.

After The Death of Stalin an internal power struggle ensues in this biopic from Armando Iannucci.
If you've in The Thick of It or In The Loop you know what to expect. Snappy, fast dialogue, deals made behind backs, fast alliances been made, scapegoats hung out to dry, this time with higher stakes as summary execution is the price of failure.
It's the ability to make near slapstick comedy out of such a gruesome period is the true stand out of this movie, including during a purge at the beginning. Top performances all around from the likes of Jason Isaacs Soviet General who sounds like a gruff Londoner, and Steve Buscemi's Khrushchev, with a Bronx twang. The fact the actors like Micheal Palin and Paul Whitehouse have British accents somehow adds to the comedy. Even Stalin talks like a dirty Yorkshireman.
Probably the most inappropriately funny biopic ever made. Highly recommended.

Ditto. I have a lot of affection for the first one and was kind of dreading the possibility of it being shit, or doing a Highlander II and having the sequel totally break the first film. But I really enjoyed it. It had some of the ambling pace and vague ambiance of the original, and the music and sound design were amazing.rachelbean wrote:Yeah, Ani, I am glad you were wrong on this one. I really enjoyed it. Well if you are going to see Thor Ragnarok buy loads of popcorn and remove your brain on the way in. Brilliantly made mindless fun. A great if ultimately empty filmic experience. Lots of laughs too.
