Captain Marvel this wet Sunday afternoon. A pleasure it was too. Better than I expected and actually terrific as Marvel movies go. Great entertainment!

Watched Smallfoot with the bairns. I confess I laughed more than a dozen times

Looks like the online boycott by the disgruntled manosphere against Captain Marvel worked. Only 153 million at the box office in the opening weekend. To think if Brie Larson hadn't pissed off all those Alt Right incels the figure could've been near .0001% as much.

In the cinema about to watch Captain Marvel. Only 4 others here. Nice.

Enjoyable but standard Marvel fare. Left more questions than it answered, a consequence of retroactively shoe-horning the character in.
This is funny. Supposed examples of male-bashing in the movie.

Sorry you didn’t enjoy it more. I loved it, especially after trying to follow the fortunes of 20 plus Avengers characters. One of my all time Marvel favs in fact.
Re: Movies of the good kind we have looked upon.
I think it just came at a bad time for me. I've been saying for the last year that I think I'm done with the whole genre after End Game. It's just stale for me and Captain Marvel has done nothing to make me want to invest in the next-gen, decade long Avengers adventure. It would've been preferable had she been in it years ago. She's not going to have an emotional pay off like that of Thor and Rocket bursting on the scene like in Infinity War. Though I am interest to see how they use her.

Re: Movies of the good kind we have looked upon.
As I’ve said elsewhere I was hooked by Marvel when the first comics came out. I was 11 or so when Fanastic Four, Spider-Man, - well when the first rush came out - and I had issue number 1s of them all - not as a collector but a fan.
I didn’t imagine in my wildest dreams they could ever bring them to life in the movies in the way they have and what is more stuck to Stan Lee’s original vision (more or less). So I love them all.
I don’t seem to have the emotional investment in them you do even so. Fantastic entertainment they are but not much more to me anyway.

Speaking of Stan Lee, my eyes welled up at the simple tribute at the beginning and his meta cameo in this is my favourite.

And in case anyone doesn't get the Stan Lee reference...

Re: Movies of the good kind we have looked upon.
As a former geek it is worth mentioning that although Stan Lee does deserve the credit for creating the Marvel Universe in its comic incarnation, he was not solely responsible for the creation of many of the characters. Two artists in particular, Jack Kirby, who was the main illustrator early on should take credit for the Fantastic Four, Thor and others. Steve Ditko, similarly, with a unique style at the time was very much part of the creation of Spider Man. Indeed there were quite long running legal tussles over rights over the years (the details of which I’ve long forgotten).
