The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin

No reason for this thread whatsoever. Just for some reason, out of the blue, I thought of this show. I think I watched it 35 years ago...lol

Don't bother with the remake with Martin Clunes though. While not exactly bad, it's not a patch on the Rossiter one.

Have they ever attempted to remake Rising Damp? :nervous:

I watched this not too long ago after only catching bits of it on TV back in the mid-80s. Sure, it's very dated, but I really enjoyed it.

I never enjoyed it as much as Rising Damp, which I still say was one of the funniest sitcoms ever mainly because of his performance. However it was repeated a while ago and I watched it again, it's certainly a product of it's time and has a level of profundity not seen outside the bleak situation tragedy that was Steptoe and Son.

Here in the US, we only had a select few Brit shows -- from back in the day, we had Benny Hill (which as a lad, I loved because of the partial nudity and lingerie scenes). Today, though, Benny Hill would never pass Apelust scrutiny, what with the rampant misogyny.

I mean, that poor woman -- just trying to do her job and sing and do a dance, and she is subjected to leering and pawing by Benny and his sidekick...lol

And, all the times they just tore the clothes off of unsuspecting women, leaving only lingerie????? Rape culture!!!!

But, we also had Monty Python's flying circus, and some other programs over the years. Keeping Up Appearances is still on, and sometimes even "Are You Being Served?" set in a department store.

This reminds me that I only ever saw a couple of episodes of Rising Damp, when A&E showed it back in the mid-80s. I'd like to see more of it if I can locate it.
