Movies that suck, but are still awesome.

Post by Coito ergo sum » Wed Oct 26, 2011 11:18 pm

Some movies, while technically terrible, poorly written, have idiotic plots, and involve terrible acting....still for some reason are just awesome....

Exhibit A: Road House -- Image -- a genius, NYU graduate, philosophy major, specializing in bouncing at hick bars. He has the reputation for being the best bouncer ever, so the Double Deuce pays a high premium to get him to come and clean up the place. He ends up angering the local ruler of the town, who has all the townfolk running scared. He battles the evildoers, cleans up the bar, avenges the death of his best friend and bouncer mentor, gets the girl, and good triumphs over evil.... stupidest fucking movie ever, but it's on every weekend, it seems. And, it's pretty watchable...lol

Exhibit B: Rudy - Image Stupidest exaggerated plot ever. A guy has a lifelong dream to go to Notre Dame. He's wanted to go since he was a little kid. Somehow he didn't think to study in middle school and high school, because he's too stupid to get accepted there. He finally decides to go, and doesn't bother applying to the school. He just takes a bus to the university, and gets out of the bus and walks to the school and knocks on the front door to ask him if they'll let him go to school there. The school isn't open yet, so they send him over to Notre Dame's campus priest, who thinks he wants to become a priest, but is even more surprised when Rudy corrects him and says he wants to go to Notre Dame as a student. Without having reviewed Rudy's grades or test scores, the priest tells him he has no chance at all to go to Notre Dame. He does say that "maybe" he could pull some strings and get Rudy into Holy Cross college (I mean, how dumb is Rudy? He needs help getting into Holy Cross dipshit college?). So, Rudy goes to Holy Cross and still manages to barely get decent grades to get into Notre Dame. But, they finally let him in. The rest of the movie is him, a 5' 7" guy who weighs like 150 pounds, trying to get on the football team with no talent, but a big heart. It's ultimately a great movie to watch, although it sucks, and at the end when his teammates all volunteer to sit on the bench so Rudy can dress for one game, tears always well up in my eyes....

Exhibit C: Wild Things.... Image Murder mystery -- sucks, but I've seen it about 10 times. It's awesome in its suckiness...and there are girl-girl scenes with Neve Campbell and Denise Richards...

I was in my teens when this came out. My older brother told me not to watch it or I'd spackle the ceiling.. he was nearly right. Denise Richards and Neve Campbell sex scenes? Yes please.

I love all those movies.

I would add to that Footloose, and 2012.

The humour's a little predictable (and it's got Tim Allen in it) but it's made with such an affection for the source material that it doesn't fail to charm.

Eh... Starship Troopers is a great satire. It does not belong here.

Retroactively claiming it was a satire just to cover the directors ass was awesome, I agree.

Roadhouse is the classic movie that should suck so bad that nobody should ever watch it, but it's just a good movie to watch. I don't know why...

I mean - just say the plot of Road House out loud. It's ludicrous. The dumbest fucking story ever. And, the lines....

I mean -- he's in seeing the doctor to get his stitches done, and she asks him what he went to college for, and he says "philosophy," and she asks "what discipline" and he says, "oh, I don't know - man's inhumanity to man, I guess..." I mean - WTF? He "guesses?" If that was his philosophical discipline, wouldn't he know it? And, there is no "discipline" called "man's inhumanity to man" - you don't fucking major in that....

And, what about the scene where he agrees to work at the double douche....he's like "it's my way or the highway! We either do this all the way, or we don't do it at all!" and "it's gonna get worse before it gets better..." Like -- he's a fucking BOUNCER....christ on a bicycle....stupid!

But...it's an awesome movie....

I'll go with...

Nicholos Cage.

Just every film he's in.

and The Expendables

Roadhouse just plain sucked IMO.

Zombieland. No great feat of filmmaking, but goddamn it's an awesome late-night popcorn flick.

Plenty of movies that could be listed in this category! :ask:

Agree on the first two. I haven't seen 28 days later. I wonder if it's on netflix. :ask:
