Review of the new Doctor Who trailer
The wait is almost over. The Doctor is nearly here. This week saw the release of the trailer for series 6 of Doctor Who, so the question is: What is in store for the Time Lord and his companions this time around?
The trailer kicks off with an ominous voice-over from River Song (Alex Kingston) declaring: “This is the Doctor’s darkest hour. He’ll rise higher than ever before and then fall so much further”. Cue a shot of a feral-looking Matt Smith wrapped in chains and being held prisoner by an unknown force.
Audiences will finally learn who the enigmatic River is, after first encountering her in ‘Silence in the Library’ in series 4 with David Tennant’s Doctor. There have been hints from the start that she is the Doctor’s wife, which could turn out to be true if the trailer is anything to go by, with the Doctor and River sharing a tender kiss.
Apart from the mystery of River unravelling, there are a whole host of new monsters to send children scurrying behind sofas across the nation, including figures in white masks, pirates, ghosts and ventriloquist dummies.
There is also a deep, omnipresent voice that declares: “Fear me, I have killed hundreds of Time Lords.” To which the Doctor retorts; “Fear me. I’ve killed all of them.” Could this be the big villain that will capture the Doctor? Will it be up to Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) to save the day?
The trailer gives several glimpses through spy holes into hotel rooms containing sad clowns holding balloons and a glaring minotaur-like creature which are reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’.
(continued)
I was terrified behind the sofa with seventies special effects so what do todays horrorfest effects do to kids minds?

Doctor Who boss says season start is 'darkest yet'
Doctor Who boss Steven Moffat has said the new season of the sci-fi show kicks off in a darker style than usual.
Launching the first two episodes at London's Olympia, Moffat pleaded with journalists to keep the show's secrets under wraps.
The opener sees Matt Smith's Doctor reunited with Karen Gillan's Amy Pond, Arthur Darvill's Rory and Alex Kingston's River Song in 1960s America.
The quartet team up with President Nixon to fight a new alien threat.
The aliens - partly inspired by Edvard Munch's The Scream - are introduced in the two opening episodes, The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon.

I hope it's better than last season. I felt that was quite lacking.

I wonder if La Pond has learned a new facial expression this series? That will bring her repertoire up to 3.

That'd be four more than the Doctor himself.Callan wrote:I wonder if La Pond has learned a new facial expression this series? That will bring her repertoire up to 3.

Crap. Bilge. The plot is pure spaghetti. There's something disturbing about this being aimed at kids.

Anyone who has ever doubted Doctor Who cannot deny this nice little 7 min prelude to the new series, put together for Comic Relief.
Seriously, if you're open minded enough to at least try this little snippet, I defy you not to love it.

Some original ideas. Some genuinely scary moments. Snappy dialogue. Unanswered questions (x lots.) Sexy pondness. I liked.

Re: Doctor Who : The New Series
I'm loving this new series - it's all a bit silly and confusing, but it's awesome.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]
