Why do Hollywood ruin films we love?

Post by Mallardz » Tue Jan 18, 2011 8:01 pm

So I just watched the Spanish film [REC] I had seen "Quarantine" first but I think [REC], although clearly made almost same, was much better.
They have also managed to cock up
"Let The Right One In" - "Let Me In"
"Ring" - "The Ring"
"The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" - A film with the same name
"Friday the 13th"
and "The Italian Job"

Okay, so I personally liked "The War of The Worlds" and "Dawn of The Dead" but I never saw the originals so it's an unfair biased opinion.

Damn you Hollywood!!!!:lay:

The remake of Mrs Miniver is just awful. The scene where the titular heroine breaks out an ack-ack gun and starts blazing away at the Heinkels, whilst roaring " take that, ye doity Kraut baystards" being particularly pitiful.

Because it is cheap and guaranteed to fill cinemas. If people refused to part with their money at the box office to watch yet another shitty remake they would stop doing it :sighsm:
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Well the film I didn't but I liked the look of the ships and all the ways they could kill, their sweet murderous tools. That's it really. So I guess that's not the film.

I do tend to agree. But there are exceptions. I loved Seven Samurai, but the Magnificent Seven was a pretty damn good film too!

Aside from the lame way they introduced the Martian vehicles and how they entered them, I liked the movie. It was entertaining. Oh, the sub-plot with the son was a bit of FAIL, too.

Overall, remakes are bad, but they don't have to be. It just seems that most have been.

The rob zombie remake of friday the 13th was another exception. Actually better than the original

The remake of Psycho.

Projects on tap: Henry V, this time with americans; it will resemble West Side Story. Ashton kucher to play Henry, Demi Moore his french paramour.

Polanski's Chinatown, this time contemporary and upscale with younger, better looking actors yet to be cast (young audiences want aspirational role models).

Casablanca, directed by James Cameron. Will possess surreal special effects, relocated to Los Angeles (naturally), with Mark Wahlberg and Emma Stone to star.

Yong people buy the tickets so remakes will be targeting them.
