New Derren Brown Show

Post by Link » Mon May 10, 2010 2:27 pm

Derren Brown Investigates starts tonight at 10PM on Channel 4

Link's Linkedy Link Link......Link

I for one will be watching, tonight he is investigating the claims of a man who can "talk to the dead"

Knowing of Derren's soft spot for skepticism this looks like it will turn out to be an interesting documentary :coffee:

Who else will be tuning in?

Oh yes, I will be.

I love how channel 4 are pushing it has "Derren Brown looks into the wieeeeerd? oooooh? Is it true? Frreeeeaaakky!" when actually it's setting up to be more like "Derren Brown very seriously stares at some mad people and some charlatans and privately wishes he could slap them and stop them spreading their nonsense to everybody else".

Just saw the episode on 4od. What a great watch, as usual from Derren. He's certainly the best sceptic we've got on TV at the moment. His thorough and suave debunking of that arrogant cock was worth an hour of my time. Can't wait to see the next one.

They described it as a piscine barrel-shoot on the radio - can't wait to see it!

Derren Brown is a wus. Chris Angel could take him easy.

Criss Angel sucks! Like majorly sucks he is the most irritating person on the face of the planet and is well documented for using stooges in his shows, which kind of defeats the object of the effect,

Anyone can get someone to play along if you offer them enough money

In case you hadn't noticed i'm not his biggest fan :funny:

Yeah, I was picking that up from my spirit guide. I'm watching it now on 4OD. The Derek Achora types shouldn't be allowed. It's emotional abuse they're peddling, and they take money for it. Makes me sick. Still, I reckon Chris Angel could still take Derren in a fight!

Is this the guy who pretended to feel and react to a "psychic punch"? If so, I'd be highly skeptical of anything he "examines".

Who, Derren Brown or Chris Angel? I've not heard of this psychic punch thingy... :dono:

Sorry. It was Derren Brown who pretended to deliver the psychic punches, while his conspirator pretended to have just met him for the first time, wildly overreact, etc.

I've not seen more of him, but I'd say he's comparable to David Blaine in this clip, and no where near Chriss Angel's level of performance. But that's based on very little of Brown's magic.

If this wasn't taken from a magic show, then shame on Darren Brown.

Nah, Derren Brown does not claim to have any special, supernatural or psychic abilities. He explicitly states that he uses things like NLP, hypnotism, diversion/deception, magic (conjuring), and showmanship. I can't watch the clip in the UK because it is blocked by Youtube on copyright grounds but I would guess that the 'stooge' is not a plant or an accomplice but somebody he has 'programmed' by talking to them and controlling the setting or environment.

As we know, the one-inch punch is possible, but is a very specific martial technique. The psychic strike is bollocks, and though some might be trained to react to certain stimuli, it will have no effect on an un-programmed individual.
:funny:

Just finished watching the Derren Brown doc. I think Joe Power's earning potential has been severely limited by the program, with Derren showing exactly how people who peddle this guff about contacting the dead with messages from the other side are almost certainly frauds. As Mr Brown says, people who involve themselves in the grief of others with such fakery are not only taking advantage of the emotionally vuneralbe but insulting the bereaved the memories they hold of the people they have lost.
