I don't do the 'I regret not seeing that on the big screen' thing. When I recently saw Mongul, I did think "I bet those landscapes look fantastic on a big screen" but that's not the same as regret.

What would have been moderately funny, would have been BAA posting, "I agree."

Re: Avatar
So I saw this again today. Was in the Pavilions in Swords so I said I'll catch a movie. There was either Avatar at 13:30 or Daybreakers at 14:50. As it was 13:25 I said I'll see Avatar because I said from the beginning I would watch it again from a better seat when there are less people there.
So this time I got a seat in the front middle so the screen was more or less filling my vision. I managed to see the start again which I missed the last time due to this film not having ads at the beginning and starting bang on the time on the schedule. I was impressed with the part where Jake comes out of stasis into an hexagonal chamber. I decided on that moment that I was going to just admire the effects and let the dumb story melt into the background.
So after 15 minutes the screen went black. The lights came on and we were told that they would restart in 5 minutes. No prob there. After 5 minutes the lights were back off and the film restarted.
So this time I just cooed at the effects. The level of detail was more apparent this time around when I was free to not pay attention to the story. I found myself looking more at the background although this wasn't always possible because it became blurred. The plants all had veins, the creatures had defined muscle structure and their skin was porous and mottled. I was able to do this for all of 50 minutes before boredom kicked in. The film started losing its 3-D effect and I found my mind wandering. I still feel absolutely no connection with the Na'vi on any level, kinda like characters on Final Fantasy 7. The characters in Ratatouille were more endearing. Eventually I became completely disengaged. The script was worse than ever and "unobtainium" still sounds stupid regardless of its history and apparent general usage in real life. Jake Still seems more like a surfer than a soldier, they can assert he has a "strong heart" all they want but I saw no evidence of this. He's no Maximus. I still don't know the female's name (or care).
About an hour and 20 minutes into it the screen went black again. I started grabbing my coat and gear. A woman came in and told us a filter had gone in the projector and the film would be back in 5 minutes and would play from where it left off.
I'd already made my decision. I went to the foyer and got my cash back. Probably the only good thing about the whole affair.
I promised myself 2 things. 1) I would never watch that film or its sequels as long as I lived and 2) this would be the last time I talk about it.
