Rifleman.

I turned the tv on in the motel room to get teens to get up. No cartoons, 30 useless channels. And Rifleman. Cattle were worth 100 dollars a head in 1960.

I like Rowan Atkinson a lot, but for some reason, I find the laughs I get from Mr. Bean never quite reach critical mass.

Sport, all day long, while pottering about the house doing this and that. Mostly that.

The movie "Bean" wins my award for worst film of all time.

Although the actual show was better. I prefer Blackadder.

I have heard that Mr. Bean was wildly popular and yet I am the only person I know/have met who actually thinks it's hilarious :ask:

DMT: The Spirit Molecule

Image

The Spirit Molecule explores the enigmatic dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a psychedelic molecule found throughout nature, including humans, and potentially every living organism.

It was both worse and better than expected. Much of it deals with Dr. Richard Strassman's study of the effects of DMT in ordinary subjects. On the plus side, Strassman recognized that his results, while interesting, weren't actually productive in terms of generating knowledge and understanding. People were tripping, and their experiences were being recorded, but nothing useful beyond that was occurring. The bad is about what I expected. There was a lot of free-wheeling metaphysical speculation based upon the unusual perceptions and the phenomenology of psychedelic experience. About a quarter of it was nothing but recounting of individual trips from a first person perspective. Which then yielded to an unending stream of cosmic hippie spewtum.

Final call. Interesting, but a very low signal to noise ratio. Skip it. There was a documentary on public television this past year that documented the relationship between animal evolution and the co-evolution of naturally occurring psychotropics like marijuana. That was a much more interesting documentary than this one. This was mostly "gee whiz" pseudo-scientific bollocks.

BBC Panorama - Secrets of Scientology (Advertised as both episode 33 and episode 36 of season 58) (BBC episode page) (Catholic Online review)

"Reporter John Sweeney's last investigation into the Church of Scientology resulted in an explosive confrontation with church officials. This time, in a Panorama Special, one of those officials has turned whistleblower to help him reveal the dark secrets of the church, which boasts Hollywood A-listers Tom Cruise and John Travolta among its devotees."

I don't want to ruin the enjoyment by spoiling any surprises in store for those not already very familiar with the church, other than to say this is excellent. Tales about life in the church from the horse's mouth, including elements of church life not widely known. John Sweeney's "Secrets of Scientology" drew nearly 5 million viewers for the show Panorama on BBC1, making it the most popular show for the 9:00pm slot.

Highly recommended.

Found a new show that I like as much as Top Shot---Sons of Guns on the Discovery Channel.
Gunsmiths, they repair and even make guns. And not just rifles and handguns, cannons too.

MrJonno would piss himself watching Sons of Guns.

I saw the beginning and the end of "The Man Who Would Be King" last night. They looked really good. Someday I hope I get to see the middle. :(

Good, but not as good as I had expected. Some fine character performances, but I was underwhelmed by Flynn and totally nonplussed about De Havilland. I didn't feel the movie hit its stride until relatively late. Still, well written and directed, given its reputation, it's hard to pass on it.

A wonderful film. The story is hardly remarkable, but the acting throughout is incredible, with the possible exception of Ms. Brooks, who, while good, was not up to the level of the rest of the cast. On top of that was a musical score almost worth the admission alone; bold but never unwelcome, it neither tarried nor barged ahead, but remained locked in perfect synchrony with what was happening on the screen. This film too, however, didn't reach a boil until late in the story.

RE: Sons of Guns
Seems the "star" Will Hayden, is a douche.

They lost 10 registered guns and lost their FFL and lost their business.
Will Hayden is being sued by an investor (work exchanged for company stock) because the business entity Red Jacket Firearms Inc. (in which Joseph Radford was paid stock) was disbanded by Hayden who then transferred all assets and interests to a new business entity of a similar name (Red Jacket Firearms LLC), cutting out Radford.

My son updated me last night.

It is still an interesting show.
