Not seeing "gay" in the movie there. Specifics?
I know where he's coming from. Some of the dialog between Frodo and Sam is a bit gay, like when Frodo smiles and gazes lovingly at Sam at certain points in the movie. It's not that it's "gay" - it's just loving emotions between two very close friends who care about each other. But, it's easy to mischaracterize it as gay in order to poke fun. I don't think it was Peter Jackson's "agenda" to make it gay and stick a finger in the eye of Tolkien or his fans.
I've never looked at any male friend of mine in that way. It looked to me like they were two guys, in love, and growing more in love, but who couldn't act on it - so tension grew.

The way I see it, it was blatantly obvious in the movie.

I'm not saying this to poke fun, I really mean it. Whether Jackson had an agenda or not, what he made was a movie that presented Sam and Frodo of being actually romantically in love with each other. (Even though there was no moment where they ever seemed like they'd kiss or anything).

I love a direct answer.
It is in the manner in which the scenes are shot. In the way the characters look at each other. In the manner in which Jackson builds the tension.

Their whole journey after they were separated from the rest of the party seemed more like a romance than a dramatic, scary, and dangerous adventure/mission.

I saw Frodo and Sam's interactions as "comrades-in-arms" rather than "I'm hot for you." Asexual, and thus "gay" is a non-question.

Or it could be you're just reading too much into it.

Maybe. I remember being irritated in the extreme at the time, so perhaps I did.

When I get a chance I'll watch it again.

Gotta disagree - I did not get the "romantic" love part at all. It seemed more like Frodo was looking at Sam appreciatively, because of Sam's dopey headed unwavering loyalty. Sam has the loyalty of a slave - one who is born to being a servant and accepts his lot. Frodo is the "master" who is at a higher social station than Sam. Sam gardens. Frodo has the "elvish quality" from the side of his family that appears to have some relation to elves in the distant past - so he is a tad "higher" than Sam.

It's the love of a master to a servant, and vice versa. Sam is servile while Frodo is aristocratic. That's the way it is in the book, and it's actually not a bad depiction in the movie, although I do see where you are coming from with the dewey eyed "Oh, Sam..." scenes. Sams love is more an extreme loyalty, though, an a desire to "see it done" and keep his promises. "Don't you lose him, Samwise Gamgee" was the promise he made.

I'm not saying that he had a deliberate agenda by the way. Just that the manner in which it was done created that impression...

(... in my opinion, which, though nearly infallible, still has one or two chinks of weakness).

They were two dear friends who had only each other to rely on and their memories of a distant, unassuming home. They saw their beloved Gandalf die, they had been chased by Nazgul, Balrog, ghosts & Uruk-hai... they were scared. Whenever they caught their breath they saw peace and love in one another. It was pretty much all they had left.
Gay... ffs fuck orf.

And, even if Sam did give Frodo some Hobbit butt to get him through the journey....would that have been so bad? I mean - gone from home - no hobbit chicks for hundreds of miles...stuck in the forest with the prospect of death hanging over their heads.... I mean -- Sam maybe just gave Frodo an alternative to wanking his little hobbit willie in the woods...
