I thought the Elf surfing was pretty stupid, but on the whole they're excellent movies.

Were they trying to make themselves hate American society? I don't understand the motivation. Which brings up another point-- how did they explain the motivations of the characters? I couldn't do it.

Oh, you know what movie really sucks, but I didn't realize it when I was little? Labyrinth. Uh... Hm. Yeah. Just bad.

I actually kind of liked Elf. Yeah. I know. But it's cute.

IMHO, it was snuck in there (along with a lot of other material) to address the minuscule attention span of today's youth. :lay:

I watched Labyrinth when I was.. I dunno 10 or something. Didn't it have a Escher-esque 'impossible stairs' scene?

It did. And David Bowie in a package-defining bodysuit. And A young, fresh-faced Jennifer Connelly. Still, surprisingly awful.

Now that I think of it, the Elf-surfing was a far worse crime than the introduced cave troll. There were at least trolls-a-plenty in Middle Earth. No surfing though, unless I missed something. :read:
To me, the crime, is that in the book, you don't see more than a toe of that troll, and JRRT would have known better than think a shirt of light mail would protect you from a blow that massive.
In the original, it was a spear thrust by an orc that had the others fear for his life... he still had massive bruising.

LOTR does not stand on its own without the setup in The Hobbit. And even then, it's an epic with so much going on that a movie can't capture it, which is why the last one had seventeen ending scenes.
So you're mad at them for shooting out of order? Good news, The Hobbit is filming now. As for the endings, people complain about it not including enough of the book and then they complain about it including too much of the book. On behalf of Peter Jackson :pawiz:
Potter is repetitive - Kids get in trouble that would end in an instant if they'd just go tell the adults what is going on, then get rescued in the end by a fluke. Repeat seven times. (I only made it through three of the books and gave up, but the movies seem to have the same plot.)
Congratulations, you just beat up a children's book. :sulk:

I loved Dark Crystal, so was excited to see another Jim Henson production in Labyrinth, especially since I love Bowie. But I thought Bowie looked utterly ridiculous, and thought the movie as a whole was god-awful. I wondered if I should give it another chance with fresh eyes and a different (adult) perspective. I guess I won't bother.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.
