I had some Doctor Snuggles on video when I was little, but I don't remember that being the theme tune. It went "If you're ever in trouble, call dr snuggles" something like that?

That' exactly how I remember the theme tune.

Ah, they re-did it. I wonder what decade I was born in, was it the 80's by any chance? It's not like you could tell from the different theme tune... *sarcasm*

The last "Riddick" movie, "Firefly", and both Dune movies borrowed from this genre, I think.

Does Avatar: The Last Airbender fall into this?

Both I guess. The film's not out yet though.

Of course, there's a long history in movies of mad inventors coming up with inventions out of their time, or ancient civilisations having technology beyond their capabilities. (any time anyone has fallen foul of a trap in a pyramid, ever)

I've got all the seasons of the cartoon on DVD and I'd not say they're steampunk at all. They seem to be set in some indeterminate point in time. I've seen a brief trailer for the film, but not much more than that.

"The Time Machine", for example.

Mag has Howl's Moving Castle .. that's another steampunkish anime film (she's into anime atm) ... It's okay .. but meh okay, not recommendable okay.

I think Metropolis could be considered steampunk  ... as could Mirror Mask, one of my favourite movies which has some steampunk undertones    .

Really though, most of the films don't quite capture steampunk (wild wild west an exception) ... the genre in film is disappointingly under represented.

I liked that one. The obnoxious old lady was fun.

"Aelita", about the same time, IIRC.
