Nor can he risk Tyrion's champion winning and thereby frustrating his scheme to get Tyrion into the Night's Watch where he will be out of his hair.

I'm not sure if Tyrion asks Jaime to represent him in the duel. It would make sense, though. Then again, he could get killed because he can't fight anymore with his fighting hand gone.
