I agree that there are WAY too many explosions, ropy plots and too much blubbing. Need to get off EArth som more, too.

And more UNIT!

"Eyes front, pop that chap, somebody"
"Sergeant Benton, chap with wings - five rounds rapid..."

That's the semi-digested quote I had going round my head.

I know this is going to reveal me for the complete nerd I am, but an older Who novel written by Paul Cornell (who wrote Family of Blood) entailed the Vardans (unconvincing villains of Invasion of Time) attempting to take over earth by means of broadcast media, this to be achieved during a global transmission of a Live Aid style concert with Paul McCartney's Wings headlining. As UNIT found it necessary to put a stop to this, and with the performers now under Vardan control.... of course: "Sergeant Benton, chap with Wings - five rounds rapid..."

It has been suggested to Paul that he wrote the entire novel just for the sake of that one terrible pun.

There have been 2 at least. One talking about the last episode with Tennant, http://www.rationalia.com/forum/viewtop ... =31&t=7611

and one with a poll which one was the best. http://www.rationalia.com/forum/viewtop ... =31&t=7614

No, actually, for a moment the new doctor (for the next series) thinks he is a woman cause of his hair.

Shameful might be a better word. I recently went for a drink with a facebook pal (who I know because I wrote an article for his fanzine translating the names of the Mexican characters in The Aztecs (4 episodes, 1964, written by John Lucarotti, probably directed by Warris Hussein).... sob)) and during a lull in the conversation he smiled and said "isn't fandom wonderful!" which I have taken as a warning of sorts. My one comfort is the guy who I was in a band with who actually knows details like who made the fucking sandwiches and what was in them during the filming of blah blah blah... I try to keep it to myself if I can. Or at least try not to be too proud about it.

Hmmmmm.... a whole Doctor Who thread and no-one has said how much they hate Sylvester McCoy yet.

I saw him playing the fool in King Lear (with Sir Ian MaKellen in the title role.) No comment on his Dr. Who performance - but the Lear was perfect typecasting IMO...

WHAAAAT! Who hates McCoy? I think he's great, and Ace. She is the character Martha should have been. I think I prefer him to Davidson, I mean, I like Davidson as the doctor, but his stories I've seen are SOOOO DULL and all of his companions ANNOYING BEYOND BELIEF.

I have yet to see any of Hartnell or Troughton or Baker number 2. I have a LOT more to watch, but it isn't easy getting hold of old episodes, especially because they are so long and come on so many discs. I think I will start with LoveFilm again once I am not a student and have some money.

I am very excited about Number 11 and the dawning of the Moffatt era. It's going to be awesome. I already love Amy Pond too, and her cute Scottish accent! Can't wait for some new monsters and I'm one of those people who couldn't be happier if it goes down the "dark" route. I loved Moffatt's stories because of the horror elements in them, but mostly I loved them because they were clever. I like stories that don't spoon-feed the viewer, you always get an extra hit of joy when you work something out for yourself.

So, yeah. That was a very furiously typed contribution!

I pretty much agree with everything you just said about Moffat, FF. There needs to be more kiddies hiding behind sofas IMO.

This new guy seems too young. The Doctor should be older.

My favorite Doctor up to now is David Tennant. Second is Tom Baker.

I loved David Tennant as the Doctor, he was wonderful in that role. I was sorry to see him go.

Anyway, the new season starts on the 13th of March, and I've been told that on Episode 4 River Song will return. The character from the excellent double episode Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead.

Love the show, loved since I was a kid, when the greek TV showed it.

Anyway, I've only ever watched the David Tennant episodes, and I loved him as the Doctor. Not sure whether I'll watch the new ones.
