Agreed. But you are universally against 3D, whereas I like some of it, but not nearly all. "How to Train Your Dragon", for example, used 3D beautifully.
After seeing Puss 'n' Boots in 3-D I think 3-D works pretty well in computer animation compared to live action.
Didn't see that one, but I agree in principle. The more CGI, the easier it is to manipulate. "Avatar" benefited from this. The scene where the shuttle swings around and lines up with the small boys was especially good. I've seen aircraft carriers do similar maneuvers and I was momentarily transported when I saw that.

Didn't Lucas eventually plan for 3D all along? I thought he filmed everything from multiple angles with digital cameras so that he could do this in the future.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

He did mention being able to "upgrade" the movies in the extras disk for Ep. 1.

By upgrade you mean "repackage the same old shit again and again and again"?

I'm not a mind-reader, so I don't know exactly what he meant by that lie.

I can't wait for the 3-D fad to run its course like it did in the 1950s. I won't go see a movie in 3-D if I can avoid it. It's more annoying than entertaining.

Well... if Star Wars episodes 3-6 come out in 3-D I might go see them. But it'll be more for the experience of seeing Star Wars films on the big screen again.

Review on Radio 5 Live this PM said it was a dreadful version of the most dreadful SW film. The 3D was retro fitted they said too.

Giving it a miss here.

Soon John Barrowman will be replacing Billy Dee Williams as the token character and Lucas will be out saying he always envisioned Lando as a screamingly camp homosexual because he'll be trying to bleed cash from another market.

I definitely thought this was going to be a joke thread, and not someone really asking if they should see it :hehe:

No. Just no. 2D was lousy enough.

Has anyone done an action-only cut of part 1? That might be bearable.

At the beginning it's so very important to understanding the motivations of the characters that we need all that exposition to fully appreciate the minutia of the trade wars between the Naboo and.... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.........

Mine must be pretty low, because I'd not go see anything from that trilogy if they paid me to go (ok, I would if they paid me enough... which would be a large amount)... Now, I might go to the Secret Nights of Amidala, if it was in feelies and Portman did it.

Pod racing, darth maul light saber battle, space combat scene, the robot army war, submarine sequence..... Tons of good stuff in the movie even though it had it's weak points.
It also has one of the best nerd jokes in movie history. If you listen to the bad guy's pod racer, you will hear what a V-1 "Doodle Bug" flying bomb sounded like. :hehe:
You mean that
a) they managed to record V1s during WWII?
b) somebody used that sample for that noise effect?

The modern kind, with the polarized glasses rather than the two color kind, is not half bad... big problem is that the technique is applied to movies that are such lemons that not the most spectacular visuals in the world could save them.
